Subject: T1 Help
I did my first OWS last weekend and besides the half gallon of salt water that I swallowed rounding the first bouy, it was a good experience!  My first tri is on August 22nd and I am slowly feeling more confident as the training progresses.  My most recent concern is the transitions, both T1 and T2.  I am more concerned with T1 because I have been doing a few brick workouts and have somewhat practiced T2.  I don't know if I will have an opportunity to practice a T1.  Is there anyone that can offer some do's and don'ts to T2.  Or what to bring and have laid out.

Why not?

You can set up your transition area in your backyard or living room.  Practice running up to your area, taking off wetsuit, putting on your bike gear and then 'exit', either run around the yard or even a few feet and turn around.  Then practice your T2.  Repeat! and Repeat again!  This is a drill that can also be done at night after your workouts or on an off day. You dont have to come out of the swim or go for a bike ride right after to practice your transitions.
Before my first tri, I practiced my transitions quite a few times so I knew what I had to do w/o having to think about it.  The brain can be mush after the swim.
Now I just set my gear up a couple days in advance to make sure I have everything, but I still go through the motions a couple times, just to remind myself what I need to do.

Watch this  It will help to answer a lot of your questions (it did for me)

I'd say read up, watch the videos, ask questions, think through the process so you know you're not forgetting anything super important (like, say, running shoes), but don't sweat it too hard.

In your first tri, you shouldn't be too worried about being super efficient in transition--it's a learning experience no matter how well you try to prepare.  Don't dawdle, but pay attention to what you're doing and learn for the future.
