Alright, seeing a lot of hotel questions in the sign-up thread, so figured I'd start a new thread as an info repository, (I don't think this should be problem).

Some questions I still have, and others may as well:

Anybody have experience staying outside LP, say in Saranac or Tupper?

If I really only need to stay race night - I have family within a 3 hour drive - is it worth screwing around with a 5-7 night minimum stay, just to avoid day of traffic and such?

What hotels are worth the money, which ones should be avoided?

Would a BT rental house be conceivable, anybody interested?

That's just the short list, feel free to add your own.

Thanks,
Shane

I stayed at Art Devlin's.  It was awesome!  Nothing fancy but clean and in a great location, only about 2 blocks from transition.  I booked it 2-3 months before the race b/c someone had cancelled.  It was about $200/night, with a 5 night minimum.

You need to do athlete check-in, rack your bike, drop off your transition bags, etc. prior to race day.  So if you were only planning on a place for Sunday night, you'd be doing a lot of driving to come to town to do all that stuff, then have to come back on race day.  The athlete guide from this year might still be up that you could get a feel for what time check in, bike racking, etc. all occurred.

I loved staying in town with all the hype.  I had a blast being able to walk to hang out near the swim start, walk to town to eat, etc.  The athlete dinner was fun & inspiring (Fri night).  I met BTers to swim, etc.  So I guess the 5 night minimum is all what you're looking for.  I was there for the whole experience, not just the race.  I met tons of people and soaked it all in.

A BT house...tough call.  I know I want to be close to town, some people bring their families, etc.  Everyone's situation is a little different.  A house or condo with a kitchen would be awesome, but i'd probably only do it if I was within a short walking distance to town.  Might be tough to get enough people to commit.

My tri team rents 2-3 house close to the race site depending on how many are doing the race. Most of them are single or childless so a 4-5 bedroom house works great for a large number of folks and it is much cheaper than a hotel and with a kitchen.

I found that the group of folks doing IMLP from BT tend to be mostly married with kids compared to other IMs so perhaps it is harder find folks to share.

this is what i'm looking forward to most.  I could not imagine staying outside of town......

also, consider the cost savings of getting a room with a small kitchen.  5 nights eating out will add up fast, especially your family comes with you.....

I stayed in town this year, Town House Lodge, 1 mile walk from the Oval, and it was a perfect place, across the street from Placid Planet for last minute bike/run/nutrition needs, a couple restaurants, and an ice-cream stand!

For 2010, I am thinking of renting a family friend's condo which is located on Fir Way, down Sentinel drive, and across from 'The Station' restaurant (3/4 mile from the Oval).  I think it is a pricey condo rental as they usually rent it out to pro's, but the two pro's bailed on them this year.  Anyway....I might be interested in some rental partners to help ease the financial burden for the mrs and I.  It is a 4 bedroom, 3 bath, 3 level condo with parking kitchen, all the amenities......very nice.  If anyone is interested....I know it is early..but keep it in mind and let me know.
