Heart rate monitors - "electrode gel"?

Save your francs and go nekkid. The only other thing I do is wet the transmitter strap in the sink before putting it on. A completely dry monitor sometimes gives funny readings or none at all until you give out some conducting sweat. With a little bit of water, I've never had a problem.

Agreed, water works just fine.  I almost bought the gel but decided not to spend the cash.  Hadn't given it another thought until now.  I usually wet the piece and my skin where it will be and it works just fine.

Also agree with use of water. Most of the heart rate monitors' instructions say to use water anyway.

I use spit.  It works too.

I have used spit and generic KY Jelly that is available at the grocery/drug stores.
In the winter the HRM seems to be a little more sensitive so I find the gel works really well for the first couple of miles until I start to sweat.

Speaking of the remarkable qualities of spit, it's good for defogging your goggles too.

i use spit as well...not point in buying the gel when your body is full of something just as usefull

They're definitely pimping. Spit/water works perfect. It's free too.

This is also what I am using right now. But they are both good.
