Subject: RE: Replacing a 2001 Grand Caravan DougRob - 2009-08-03 11:57 AM My wife drive a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan with 126K+ miles. It is rated at 18 city/23 hwy. She would mind a smaller car to carry the kids and stuff. What would you recommend? Bear in mind that if we could find a vehicle with +4 mpg better we qualify for 3500K Cash for Clunkers, and at +10 mpg I think we would qualify for $4,500.
Thanks,
Doug I would go to CARS.gov and verify that you would qualify. I believe it is a combined MPG of less than 18 in order to qualify. If your car gets better mileage than that, no matter how old, according to the government, you are not eligible for the rebate. On a side note I am loving my Toyota Matrix as a great run around car. great mileage, 4 doors + hatchback, plenty of room. much smaller than a minivan though but still plenty of storage. edit: just did a quick search on cars.gov and it looks like only the Automatic 4 cylinder 3 speed front wheel drive does not qualify, so any model other than that and you should be good to go. As a note to that the Toyota Matrix does get 10-11 more miles per gallon than the majority of the Grand Caravans. Good Luck and shop fast! Edited by bel83 2009-08-03 6:23 PM
