Subject: Runner's Pace info please....

I am training to enter my first Sprint Tri and I am wondering if my pace is somewhat competitive.
I am 29 years old and I just started running again. The last time I ran a mile non-stop was in H.S. But I have been biking about 30 miles a week and running 6-9 miles a week. My times improve a few seconds every run !    :~)

So far here are my best run times on flat roads:
       -3.1 mi (5K) = 23:15
       -4.0 mi = 31:30

Thanks for the help!

thats a good pace. The people who win these things usually are in the upper 5 minute to lower 6 minute mile pace. One thing you can do is look at last years results and see what the average pace was.

Have you practiced jogging after riding your bike? If you have not done this, I would strongly urge you try it as it will affect your jogging pace.

Just sign up and have some fun with the first one. If you do well enough to place then that is a bonus.

Those are pretty good times.

I agree with the advice above of just going out there and soaking up the experience on your first tri. Race to your abilities but have fun and find out what its all about.

Given that, I will say that you probably shouldn't expect to run as fast in a tri as you would in a stand alone running race. Running off the bike is a lot different then just running by itself. Your bike fitness will also have a big impact on how well you're able to run after the bike portion of tri.
