Subject: Rolled Ankle??
So i just rolled my ankle playing in a basketball game. Yea not very much fun. I was supposed to have an 80 minute run and a 45 mile bike run. I can barely walk, and it is really swelled up to the size of an orange about i would say. Yea pretty fat!! What is the best way to keep up my current condition, with out hurting my ankle anymore. I know water workouts are probably the best way to go untill i can start jogging on it? I am afraid that doing a free style all the kicking will end up putting me back So i am thinking about running in the pool or dead leg swimming. I just use my arms and let my feet drag. It wont be good form but i figure for a week, it will at least let me keep my swimming up and hopefully i won't lose too much. Any advice?

You're not going to lose much if anything in a week.  If even swimming hurts it, then just RICE.  You should be fine for swimming in a few days.  After that add biking and running back slowly once it stops hurting.

x 2 above.  If you can and there is a sports medicine place at your gym or something, a couple 1/2 hour sessions of mild electric current into your ankle will help tremendously in terms of faster recovery time.

I am getting better after colliding with a collegiate football player when playing kickball about 3 weeks ago.

I made sure to RICE, more than ever before.  I found compression helped me the most.  I was able to get back on the bike quickly and not loose much there and swimming shorter distances was acceptable, just the run was trouble.

I was only a few weeks before a race, where I ran my fastest average speed over 4.4 miles with no pain, man was I glad i laid off it as much as I did.

Best of luck to your recovery.

My suggestion would be the same as most. First few days, ice and elevation. I wouldn't do anything for 2-3 days if possible. Then a good swim day. Then see how it feels and maybe you can do an easy bike. Don't make it worse than it is or you'll have longer to wait until it heals.

Thanks for the help. I just got a compression sock. Its just hard to lay off it. I can only lay down and watch so much tv before I get bored. I will try to rehab with a towl tomorrow.
