Every so often - esp. when I get down on myself/ feeling tired/ cranky/ slow/ etc. - I stop and think "wow, I am really lucky to be doing this."

I'm fortunate to have the health, the energy, the money (no, I'm not rich, but I have enough disposible income to buy a bike, enter races, etc.), the support of my family, the time --- to be a triathlete.

It's pretty awesome when I stop and think about it.

I agree....We are very lucky.  I try to remember that on the days training is hard too.  Some day I will look back and long for one of those tough runs/bike days

This is why I stopped beating myself up about being slow -- most of my "i'm so slow" stuff is tongue in cheek -- because I truly do feel blessed to be able to swim/bike/run and all the other activities I enjoy.

I try to remember this, when I get remotely whiny about a training day:

when I checked the Steelhead HIM results (had some friends doing it) and saw a 79 y/o dude finishing in WAY less time than I ever could, man, THAT was humbling......

I agree, it's an amazing gift we've got.

The bigger picture is always humbling. Lots to be thankful for, all around.

x10.  It's good to remember this every day.  Spend some time with people truly down and out (homeless, sick, refugees, pick your poison) and it'll be hard to forget.

Dang. I'm going to have to be 80 before I get a chance at hardware.
