How long until gels expire?

My GU, Cliff, and power gels have expiration dates on them. What are you using?

I buy it (Hammer) in bulk, and the stuff I bought a couple of months ago says late 2010.  Of course, I don't know how 'fresh' it was when I bought it.

Its just sugar and salt! Eat 'em! Or mail them to me.
I feel lucky...just won a case of Clif Shot Blox as a raffle at the Santa Cruz Sprint Tri yesterday.

depends on how new it was and the temp it was stored at.

i have some rass and apple hammer gell that is over 2 years old (or i have had it that long) that is fine, and a few i left in the kitchen or car than went bad after 9 months. try one, will be pretty sour if its not good;-)

THEY EXPIRE! If they don't have a date I would toss them.

I ate some PowerGel that had been around for about 6 months.. and I didn't think they expired. I got out on a 16 mile run... only to find out that yes, they do expire.

The gel had separated and there was a liquid at the top and this hard ball at the bottom of the packet. I tried to eat it... and WOW talk about GROSS. It was beyond disgusting.

Toss 'em I tell ya.

hammer gels will do one of two things as they start to go bad.

some flavors will start to get thicker, and will lose a bit of flavor, be almost solid, they get harder way before the flavor or nything gets to a bad level.

some flavors get sour like juice going bad (rass does this), again you will know, and it wont kill you.
