Subject: Adult swim lessons in Milw. area or North?
Any recomendations on who may offer adult swimming lessons this Fall? I'm in West Bend and work in Milwaukee so somewhere at or between the two. Our YMCA used to, but now not until Spring.I've tried their stroke technique class, but it was alittle too much yet. I have definite technique/endurance issues and don't want to do drill work if I don't have the basics understood. Thanks.

Mike Daley has run a "Total Immersion" swim school and Master's swim class out of the Whitefish Bay HS pool (this data might be dated, as I swam there two winter's ago). He also provides group and private lessons, as I recall. Here's a link to the Total Immersion - "Find a Coach" page: http://archive.totalimmersion.net/find-coach.html

Total Immersion is not for everyone, but has found great acceptance in the Tri community, particularly for adults with little swim background.

Another suggestion is to search for Master's swim classes in a convenient location for you. The person (s) leading these classes very likely will conduct private lessons on the side or certainly would know someone who does. Yet another option is to contact the swim coach at a nearby HS - same deal applies, likely to know someone who offers lessons...

Southwest Y(HWY 100/beloit) has adult swim lessons as well as a tri-stroke class.

The YMCA in Brown Deer (Rite Height... old Schroeder Y) has some pretty good swim classes...

I took beginner adult classes at the YMCA in Brown deer last fall with Barb on Wed. mornings, and it was a great help. She is also a triathlete and the class was very small so it was almost like having a private lesson. After that I took the tri-stroke class at the Southwest Y that kimk mentioned, and that continued to build on what I learned in the first class.
