Swim
Comments: What a great swim. For the first time in my life my swim rank was better than my bike or run rank. Usually the swim is my weakest discipline but today I felt great in the cold water and crappy on the bike and run. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Well, maybe I would have liked to push myself to draft a bit more. Transition 1
Comments: The past few races I had terrible T1 times - averaging around 2:45 - so my goal was to shorten the T1 time. To save time I decided to skip wearing socks. I saved a good 15 seconds. At the end of the race I was hobbling on two bloody ankles - by blue/grey shoes had become a lovely shade of red. What would you do differently?: PUT ON MY SOCKS. Bike
Comments: As soon as I got on the bike I felt wrong. My calfs cramped up and I had muscle pain in my hips. Dehydration and sleep-depravation are two cruel mistresses. Then I hit the hill called 'the Beast'. The climb was brutal for me - I'm not a good climber in general and it all my effort to mash my way up at 8 km/hr without unclippimg and walking. One guy beside me actually tipped over and fell. Several people were walking their bikes up. The rest of the bike ride was uneventful, but I lacked the spark to hammer away. The highlight of the ride was the descent down the hill. I hit 70km/hr before fear kicked in and I applied the brakes. good fun. What would you do differently?: Get more rest. Get more liquids. Get more big hill training. Transition 2
Comments: I always have a T2 in the 1:00 to 1:20 range. Run
Comments: This is where it all fell apart. My body started to give way rightfrom the start. A 50mg Caffeene gel pack kept me alive but just barely. I walked a number of times. My ankles bled and my legs were to tired to move. My body overheated when I ran. What would you do differently?: Get more sleep. Get more liquids. Get more running miles. Post race
Warm down: Medical tent for anti-septic and band-aids for my ankles. Then took my bike back ot the car and returned for the draw prize. My record remains perfect - 15 Subaru races and I've not won even one lousy water bottle. Then it rained. Hard. It seems like it rains every time I race this year. If there is some drought stricken land in a God foraken corner of the third-world, they should organize a triathlon and invite me. I guarante that the rains will come down from the heavens and soak all my race gear. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat, fatigue and dehydration. Event comments: Nice race venue - especially the swim. The hill on the course is also a nice twist. I may do this again since its close to home. Last updated: 2009-08-05 12:00 AM

Big office party the night before. Got to bed after 3am.
Crewled out of bed at 6am. Threw my gear in the car and drove off. Stopped at McDonalds for a large coffee and muffin.
I had no other liquids before the race - I paid for it later on...
In my drowsy state I forgot my towel, fortunately the race t-shirt came dirt colour and was used as a towel.
A 200m swim in the lake.
