I will be competing in my first sprint Tri Oct. 4 in Mission Bay and would like to have a couple OWS under by belt before then if possible.  I was wondering if anybody could help me out with finding a location for some OWS in the OC or surrounding areas.  I have a bit of apprehension about the swim portion and would like as much practice as possible leading up to the race.  Thanks in advance for any assistance.....

I'm thinking this group would probably be a good one for you to check out.  I'm sure there are some members that hang out in here, as well...

Triathica in Lake Forest has a group open water swim at Corona Del Mar on Wednesdays at 5:30 pm. Call them for details. There are several levels of swimmers from total beginners to advanced.

Also Belmont Shore in Long Beach, although not truly open water it is large (1/4 mile long) swimmers area with no waves or currents.

the swim in mission bay - if you are talking about in San Diego is very calm....I did this swim last year. I think they allow swim buddies at this tri too...that is someone who will swim next to you so you dont get too anxious...I had one and he totally calmed me down! there were a lot of jelly fish everywhere...but noone got hurt. Just dont want you to get there and not expect any!? good luck!

If you go to Corona Del Mar on a Thursday night around 5:30 or on a Saturday morning around 8am there always seem to be a few to a bunch of people swimming the bouys.  Everytime that I have shown up (not a part of a group) I find people to swim with.
