Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am like many of you - I trained in high school / colleg and then took time off before getting back into it (for me 15 years) - I would love to see others changesI just went through my old results to compare where I am today Age 16 1984 Canton Bud Light Olympic Triathlon 1k swim+T1 16:00, 33k bike 1:05, 10k T2+run 45:00 Total 2:06:00 Age 18 1985 Run For Liberty II 5 mile 30:30 Age 19 1986 Army PT test 2 mile 10:21 Age 20 1987 Youngstown International Peace Race 10k 37:28 Age 22 1989 Army PT test 2 mile 10:04 In the interim I was never sedentary but I was not training and by age 34 I was almost 30 pounds over my ideal weight. I started running at 35. I finished my first comeback 5k at age 35 in 20:53 (nearly 4 minutes slower than my PR) and that was an all out effort that left me staggering. my old man PR's which I am very happy with: Age 40 2007 Columbus Marathon 3:21:22 Age 41 2008 Grandview Pumkin Run 5k 18:03 2009 I plan to beat all of my old man PRs in the next 2 years |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() No early age, high school PRs for me. I didn't start running until I was 44 and triathlons at 45. I've set all my current PRs in the last year at ages 52/53. I think I can still improve for a couple more years. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was an average HS swimmer, then went onto being an average college swimmer at an average DIII program, then took 20+ years off before starting masters swimming a 2+ years ago. Today I'm fast in my mind, and I physically feel like I'm swimming near the speed I did in HS and college. But in reality I'm nowhere close. ![]() My goal (not announced until this moment!) is to break 1 minute again in the 100 yd free in a meet next spring. I did a 50 yd free last year in 27.1 so I may not be that far off. Didn't race this year. I recall that my best 100 yd free way back when was 49.9. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit I was a former college swimmer when I can't even break 1 min in the 100 free. ![]() Brian Edited by famelec 2009-08-12 3:38 PM |

No shame there - If you are close to going under a minute after 20 years off that is STELLAR. And at 49.9 you couldda finished, high five'd the guys in lanes 3 and 5 and still have time to turn around to see me finish at my best.Today I'm fast in my mind, and I physically feel like I'm swimming near the speed I did in HS and college. Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() at the age of 48 there are no more PR's for me...other than maybe iron distance because I have not done that before. SI started running when I was in my mid 20s...set all my PRs when I was in my 30s. Quit worling out when my first child was born 10-years ago and put on over 50 pounds...never have come close to running well since! I can still remember these PR's: 5K - 17:05, now around 22; 10K - 37:51, now around 47, Half Marathon - 1:26:~, now around 1:50. I did tris back then too but really don't think too much about my times as I always considered myself a runner, not a triathlete. But I do know that my swim and bike times really have not suffered the way my run times have. Sure, I can't climb like I did when I was 30 but on the flats I think I am just as strong now as I was 15-years ago. I think even at my age if I could stay healty I could still bring my run time down some (maybe sub 45 for a 10K). Unfortunately it seems since I turned 40 I just can't put in the mileage and intense workouts without getting injured.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() rayd - 2009-08-12 5:28 PM These are great come back times! I know I am not going to beat the 20 year old Me so I keep a separate set of PR's for age 35 and up. They have cool age grading conversions on line that allow you to compare your accomplishments at 50 with those at 20 or whatever.at the age of 48 there are no more PR's for me... I can still remember these PR's: 5K - 17:05, now around 22; 10K - 37:51, now around 47, Half Marathon - 1:26:~, now around 1:50. ... |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I guess the advantage of staring out older at 44 I have no young me times to compare. I still hope to keep setting PBs for the next few years....fitness gains are less as I've been doing this longer, but I train smarter and am learning to race better. I can't wait to turn 50 and age up. My parent thought that was funny as how many women want to be 50? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I ran some track in high school, our season was 4 weeks with 4 meets and the long distance race was the 1500m. Carried on running and did the following in my 20's and in college. 3000m (160m banked wood board track) 8:32 5000m (160m banked wood board track) 14:40 10k (track) 30:45 15km (road) 47:37 Ran off and on for a few months at a time but never much again. January of 2004 at 33yrs old I tried a short lived comeback (all of 3 months) and managed a 31:40 10km on the road that March. Divorce and life then followed and I did no pyhysical activity until and I started to train for tri's this past January. I don't think I will be breaking in running PR's, but I never swam or biked so I can set those and also never ran a marathon so there is always that if I want a pr |
