I competed in my first sprint triathlon yesterday.  I basically had a goal to finish but of course I had some rough times in my head which I beat overall!
I finished 9th/16 in my age group and 179/322 overall.  My overall time was 1:27:42
That overall time actually blew me away.  I never thought that I would come in under 1:30 for my first!
I had a hard time on the swim...I started out too fast and had a hard time catching my breath for the rest of the time but finished in 16min which included a decent run up a sand dune to T1.

My run time was awesome for me.  I did just a 5k run this summer and my tri split time beat that! (26 min).  I finished in the top 1/3 overall which was good saying it was approaching 90 with high humidity by the time we started the run...and no breeze!

I feel disappointed by my bike time.  I finished in 40 min and averaged 18.15mph but 3/4 of the racers beat me!  I don't think that I went out quite hard enough since it was my first race and I am not usually a good runner.  I was thinking though beforehand that averaging 18-20mph would be good but apparently this was a fast bike course.

The overall winner finished in 1 hour!

But overall I had fun and I am hooked.  I am signed up for the Chicago Tri in 2 weeks.  I am glad I did this one to get a feel since 8000 participants in Chicago may feel a bit overwhelming :-)

Once you catch the bug it's hard to shake it.  Congrats on your race.

Oh and I was going to mention how friendly the other triathletes were.  I don't have the fanciest bike in the world but I received many compliments on mine which felt nice.
Also, I started to cramp up on the run and walked quickly for about a minute but during the walk two runners went by and gave me words of encouragement for the last .75miles.  That really helped me get back to running and finishing the race in under an hour and 30 min!
Thanks everyone!
