Subject: Crashed on my bike 6 days before my first race!
Question is....since I'm pretty banged up (both knees are either swollen/bruised or have less skin then before) should I just skip my last few workouts? It just happened last night so I'm feeling the worst of it today and resting but if I feel up to it, should I try for that last bike and run later this week? Anyone think that it may be worse for me to NOT do anything? Opinions please...this is my first race and I really want to rock it.

In an ideal world you would want to have your taper.

In my opinion, I would take it easy and heal up. As we used to say in bodybuilding, "if you don't have it a week out, tapering (in that case dry cutting) won't help." Take it easy and try to get your body back to 100% for the race.

I would however get back on the bike for a "confidence boost" ride after a crash.

Thanks for your reply. I did ride my bike about 5 miles back to my car after the crash so it didn't shake me in that sense. I was just having such a great ride and was looking forward to having a few more good runs before Sunday, ya know? Kind of like sealing the deal in my mind.

Sucks about the crash.  Glad you're ok!  I'd definitely take it easy, put tons on neosporin on the wound and rock it at the race...

i;m actually going to come at this from the other side.

ASSUMING you are not seriously hurt.

i would get out and try and get a few workouts in, shorter rides/runs/swims if its not open still.

if it was bad at all you are going to stiffen up a LOT, and this iwll help keep things loose.

i crashed 7 days out from a race two weeks ago, and then had a 25 hour drive to get home, then a race the day after.

at all the rest stops i got out and jogged for 10 min and that pretty much saved my legs from being planks.
