Subject: Asics DS vs Nimbus question
I started running in Asics DS trainers in July, and I love them....but sometimes I feel like my feet take a banging from them, now that I am buliding distance after HIM recovery, since they have little cushion. I am curious about adding the Nimbus for longer runs for some extra cushioning.

I figure its a long shot, but anyone have experience with both of these shoes?

I do.  I use the DS for shorter and faster runs and bought the Nimbus for longer runs.  The Nimbus is a bit too cushony.  I prefer wearing my Kayanos or any of my old GT21XXs.

Like you said, the thin DS tends to let a lot more road shock through.

I'm not familiar with the Asics.  But after using the Nimbus for last years HIM and full mary training and liking them I tried a new pair this year and ran well over 100 miles in them and found I had a lot of foot pain after runs so I shipped both pairs I originally ordered back to Roadrunner, there 60 day day trial for VIP members came in real handy.  I've been doing a lot more running this year as I'm training for a full IM.  Overall it was a nice shoe and felt lighter and more airy then last years model.

I've switched to the Kayano 15's and have been real happy with the overall cushioning and support for my size 13 flippers and 195 pounds.

Good luck

I use DS trainers as race shoes.  Very light.

As mentioned, not a lot of cushion.  I don't use them for training.  Use a bit more of a cushioned shoe for this.

I suspect if I trained in DS trainers, my joints would not like me!

JMHO...

I haven't tried the DS, but I ran a few times in the Nimbus and didn't like them. I'm on my 3rd pair of Cumulus 9s and love them. They feel lighter and less boxy than the Nimbus but still have enough cushioning to keep me happy.

The DS Trainers are a performance stability shoe. The Nimbus is a neutral shoe. If you need the stability I'd go with the 2140s instead of the nimbus.
