Eton Supersprints - 1 - TriathlonSprint

View Member's Race Log
Eton,
England
Human Race
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 13m 41s
Overall Rank = 500/779
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 11/40
Pre-race routine:

Cycled to station, caught train and cycled on to event. Set out transition, ate couple of bananas and drank some Gatorade.
Event warmup:

Stretched.
Swim
  • 10m 7s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

Extremely cold water - affected breathing and opted against bilateral breathing. Swim itself wasn't too bad, out of the water in 7 minutes (time includes T1). But see notes on transition below.
What would you do differently?:

Should have warmed up in water a bit earlier and so been able to sprint to first buoy and drafted off fastest swimmers.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Came out of water and realised I was stuck in wetsuit: hopped around in comic manner for couple of minutes until I finally got neck undone and rest slid off.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on transition. Having cycling shoes with laces and velcro slows things down immensely.
Bike
  • 40m 25s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 18.56 mile/hr
Comments:

(Time includes T2). Reasonable bike. Started long way back because of wetsuit mishap. Worked quite hard but legs felt fatigued.
What would you do differently?:

Possibly longer rest period before race. Certainly more sleep.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Inevitably slow because of need to undo bike shoe laces and do up running shoes laces. Otherwise ok.
What would you do differently?:

Re-think shoes?
Run
  • 23m 9s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Started long way back but managed to overtake 10 women during course of run. Could (and should) have run faster but concerned not to go out too hard given fatigue felt in legs during bike.
What would you do differently?:

Try to up pace slightly at a slightly earlier stage.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched a little, then packed up and rushed to catch train home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Principally transitions, which will be less of an issue with longer distance races. Also some fatigue in legs.

Event comments:

Good race for first triathlon of season. Well organised, as always.

Very strong bike segment, especially considering the transition slowdowns that are rolled into that time. Nice work.

Wow!  What a race!

I hear you on the bike shoe thing: I have velcro straps and shoelaces, too.  What I have done is put some Yankz elastic laces in 'em.  I does help somewhat, but not enough for my liking.  I think I just need some new shoes, but wifey doesn't agree

Great race, Jane!  Keep up the great work!!

Hi Jane

Good job on Eton. It was a gorge day wasn't it? All your splits are fab. Great run time - you must have been flying round.

Are you doing Windsor?
