Age Group Rank = 4/
Pre-race routine:

Up at 3:45, ate some Ezekiel toast with PB.
Got dressed, loaded the pack and rode to Specs to meet with John (fatty) and Justin W (trin2bfast)
Event warmup:

Swam about 200 yards. When I got out of the water my amazing husband was there, I didn't expect to see him until the bike so this was a nice surprise :)
Swim
  • 17m 31s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

We were in the water 10 minutes before our start. It helped calm the nerves to chat with the other ladies but I wasn't ready for the gun. Got past a bit in the beginning but I knew I'd catch them. High centered on an oyster covered boulder about 150 yards out - cut up my hands pretty good and cost me some time. Open wounds + salt water = ouch!
I felt really good about the distance, no concerns completing, no fatigue.
I was a bloody mess getting out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

I suck at sighting! At one point I found myself in the middle of the triangle so I need to work on that.
Transition 1
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

Not happy! Got to TA and a gal had moved my bike AND all my stuff. Everything was under the rack and hard to get to, ate some of my time and I used my towel to clean up some of the blood. Wore socks this time.
What would you do differently?:

Hang out until TA closes so I know where my stuff is.
Bike
  • 1h 01m 44s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 18.12 mile/hr
Comments:

Again issues getting clipped in and a gal wrecked right in front of me at the mount line.
This was a good ride for me even though I lost some spots. I always do on the bike so I know I need work here but I am happy with my pace and did very well on the bridge - I passed a couple and didn't get passed while climbing. The fit felt good and I am finally happy with my seat.
I have to say though I did not feel safe on this ride.
What would you do differently?:

More time on my bike, climb hills. Oh and Keri needs new pedals.
Transition 2
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

Stuff is still hard to get to but I felt pretty good. I was first in my group.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 37m 52s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

This run felt good. I'd say this is my best tri run to date. I was never out of breath and my legs didn't feel too bad. Water stations were perfect and helped keep me cool. With about 3/4 mile left I set my sights on a gal I wanted to pass, she was out pretty far at first but she would stop to walk and I would gain on her but she was faster then me when she was running. I finally passed her. I rounded the corner to the finish line and she passed me. Oh no, not today! I poured it on to a full sprint and passed her pretty easily. That was the best part of my race, I am very happy with my finish!
What would you do differently?:

Know that I can run faster and do it.
Post race
Warm down:

Husband, water, Pepsi, watermelon, BTers, checked stats and found out I was 4th Athena. They didn't split Athenas by age - I was the first 40+ Athena. I am happy with 4th though, it was a good race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I am slow but am getting just a bit faster.

Event comments:

Racing with fellow BTers is the best!

"I rounded the corner to the finish line and she passed me. Oh no, not today! I poured it on to a full sprint and passed her pretty easily."  That is totally cool!  I wish I had some gas left to sprint at the end of a tri.

Swimming with gators is pretty neat too, we only have the occasional shark and stingray in Jersey ...

Super job Keri!
