Subject: Any spinning instructors out there??
I'm considering looking into getting certified to teach spinning classes, and was wondering what certification programs anyone out there might recommend. I've had some great spin instructors, and some just AWFUL instructors -- and often thought to myself, "I could do a better job than THAT...." So, I might just take the plunge and try to do it.

Any suggestions from the experienced???

I've been a Spinning instructor for a few years.  I am certified through Mad Dogg (aka Spin Fitness).  There are some great instructors and some fantasticly bad ones.  Check out the following websites for info:

If you have any questions, just let me know.  Cheers!

I agree with your other commenter!  I have been teaching for over ten years and learned from the best, Johnny G. himself who invented spinning to train for the Race Across America.  Beware of instructors not Mad Dog or Schwinn trained, Spinning is not like so many younger instructors think "aerobics on a bike"!  I now live in Australia and find very few instructors that teach the finer art of Spinning.  It really is a journey and not a boot camp drill.  Good luck with your training.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm also wondering if any additional certifications might be useful, like maybe a Group Fitness Instructor cert... There seem to be several organizations offering this cetification as well. Any guidance on which is most highly regarded in the fitness industry?

I had the same reaction to some of my local instructors.  They were terrible and I could do a better job.

The gym was asking for new instructors and would train you for free.  So I went through it and got certified to teach at the gym.  I can't take this certification anywhere else, but thats ok.

Mad Dog is the national certification that I would recommend.
