Subject: Do you like clean transitions?
I was thinking about this yesterday. I like the idea of clean transitions because it forces a definition to how much stuff one can have and how much space it can take up. If you haven't done a clean transition tri it's where you get a run bag and a bike bag (or 1 bag?) and everything must be in the bags or clipped to your bike. You can't leave stuff all over the place.

At my tri on Sunday many people had crap all over the place and the jerk next to me took up basically 2 spots of the rack as he put his bike up and then put all of his stuff next to his bike sprawled out everywhere. He also messed up the racking order so his bike could point towards the bike out (we were at the back of transition).

Just a thought....

Don't like the idea of having to get everything out of a bag during transition. Do like the idea of well-marshalled transitions to avoid the sprawl that you describe.

Best advice is for everyone to keep it simple, take a hard look at whether you really need everything you bring into the transition area. Common sense and common courtesy should rule.

Step 1: Point out how he's impacting other racers and ask that he collects his equipment and follow the racking order.
Step 2: Let him know that you weren't really asking, just being polite, and to get his crap out of the damn way.
Step 3: Call the USAT official over and let them enforce the transition rules.

This is why I like assigned racking spaces as opposed to a free for all or even just a range of numbers based on your AG.  It becomes very obvious when someone encroaches upon another' space, and you have a legit justification to tell someone to tighten up their area w/o having to get an official involved.  You also don't get the last minute arrivals who squeeze into a space that doesnt really exist.

I don't like the idea of having to fish my stuff out of a bag. But I also don't have a problem with telling someone to move their crap.
