Welcome to the challenge Chanticleers!

From the university website: Chanticleer comes from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. More specifically, he comes from the Nun's Priest Tale, a story within Canterbury Tales. The Chanticleer is a proud and fierce rooster who dominates the barnyard.

Dang.  Teams posted already and me with no goals.  Guess that means I have to sit down and do some planning and some maths.

Started off the first day of the challenge with 6.75 miles run. Of course I slept in this morning (family is sick, I'm getting as much rest as possible). Son has baseball tonight so the only choice was to get the run in at lunch..when it's 100 and sunny. Wouldn't have been -so- bad, but of course in packing I left my water bottle / fuel belt at home so it was a HOT run.

I put my goals on the spreadsheet.

Swim: 20,000yd
Bike: 400
Run: 80

Complete in that order.

Have to back off from the IM ramp up training, lots of miles last month but too much for the joints. So, the plan is less this month and then a larger jump in October.  Also missing a whole week of swimming next week (7th to 12th) as the pool is closed for maintenance.

Hello team!!!!

My goals:

Bike: 14 Hours

Run: 8 Hours

Swim: 9 Hours.

Starting with a swim tonight.

I have an OLY at the end of the month so I will meet my goals - bit more realistic this time around.

Good luck everyone.

My last tri is in less than 2 weeks.  After that, it's strictly running.  So for my goals:

4050 yds swimming
35 miles bike/trainer
80 miles running

Off to a good start.  Got in 10 miles on the trainer and 2 miles on the treadmill yesterday, and swam 1000 yds this morning.

Good luck team!

Hey team!  Glad to be here.

Todd, I was happy to see your posting about what a Chanticleer was - I was wondering.  Kind of funny that I would end up on the rooster team since I'm not a morning person, but maybe that will be another motivation for me to get up and get my swim workouts inSmile.  I also have to work around our pool being closed from Sept 7-15 for yearly maintenance - guess I'll be getting my bike sessions in during that week.

I'm looking forward to this challenge.  With my tri's over for the year and just running races coming up, I've been slacking on my swim and bike workouts (read as: not doing any at allLaughing).  This will help get me back on track and hopefully into some kind of winter maintenance program.

Heh.  No...not slacking, let's just call it the 'off-season.'   And let's all ENJOY the off-season.  I won't be swimming or biking again until November!

Sounds like everyone is off to a good start!  I managed a run last night and have a trainer session planned for this evening.  I still haven't figured out my goals yet but I promise to have them in the spreadsheet by Friday.

Afternoon swim done!  I think I'll get one more swim in this week (Friday) since the pool is closed the entire week next week. Been working on a shoulder problem related to ramping up the swim volume. I think maybe I have also been overreaching on that arm stroke. Tried today on the straight set to enter earlier and then extend underwater.  Seems to have helped a little today as I'm not feeling sore from the swim.

I've been working on that all year.  One drill that is helpful is the 'fingertip' drill.  As your trailing arm comes out of the water, lead high with your elbow and let your elbow 'drag' your fingertips across the top of the water (your chest/hips should be rotated towards the pool wall).  After I do a set with this drill, I can feel it in my lats (where I should be feeling it) and not in my shoulders.  It makes it almost natural to enter earlier and extend and rotate with more power in the water.

Run yesterday at lunch.  Swim this morning.  Got to get it in before the 3 day weekend.  With all the family activities going on, I may be tempted not to train!

Too much project work today, so won't get in a lunchtime run, but I've got a 1/2 day tomorrow, so running and biking are on the schedule for tomorrow...
