Subject: A Pain in my Knee
Quick Question for all of you with knees Over the last couple of weeks (my log is not up to date) my right knee has been sore, at first it was just while climbing up a steep canyon in a race that i attributed to not climbing enough and going so very very slowly up the road. It went away after the race, about 24 hours later it was fine and I had no problems with it. then i pulled my calf (right leg) and while riding 40 or 50 miles about 3 weeks ago it was starting to really hurt towards the end of ride, i figured due to the pain in my calf I was over compensating while peddling and annoyned my knee. the last couple of rides it has hurt towards the end of the ride, and felt better 24 hours later. yesterday though it started hurting about 20 miles into my ride and was very sore by the time i made it home (42 miles), i iced it last night but today it is still really sore when i bend my knee. i have a dr appt tomorrow for unrelated matters so i will have her check it out but i wondering what the more common knee problems might be, it seems to be a moving pain, sometimes its deep inside the back side of knee and other times it feels more to the outside. any thoughts or helpful ways of relieving the pain are greatly appreciated, i want to play at the new cyclocross course on tuesday

also im over due for a proper bike fit which is probably the root of the problem??

Way to vaque to give you specifics, but research ITBS on this site and see if it starts sounding familiar. It was my issue and pain started to the outside and back of knee. Bike was also the cuplrit. There are quite a few different stretches and therapies that can calm it down quickly (too many to list here)...

Good luck.

Hard to say without perspective. Is it the patella (knee cap) that is hurting? inside the knee? outside the knee, front, back, side? All of these make it easier to list common ailments that could be affecting your knee/performance. I will second getting it looked at closer though, if you wait to long you will end up like me (though mine was unintentional) and taking 2+ Months off of training to do PT to correct the issue. Good Luck and hope you get it figured out and feeling better!

unfortunetly the reason im vague, is because i dont know how to describe it, its definetly not patella related though, its deeper than that. it doesnt hurt when i walk but when i bend it to sit down it hurts. i will look up ITBS though, thanks

Back of the knee? Drop your saddle a 1/4 inch and see how things feel.

Typically pain in the front/patella is from too low of a saddle or a foot that needs cleat wedges or inserts for stabilization. Pain in the back of the knee usually indicates a saddle that is too high.
