Subject: MS word 2007 "track changes" fail
BTers to the rescue, puuuleeeaaaasssse.

I've got a document and each time it is saved all the of the tracked changes are converted to a single color and attirubted to "author" instead of having my changes, and my colleagues changes, and my bosses changes, and counsel's changes all differentiated.  I work on it and safe it and all mine are now indistinguishable from the previous redlines.  I get it back from counsel and I can't tell what is new - they all look the same!

Please help me turn this off!

Hate to be a bother, but if you believe that article ansers my question, please point it out.

To be clear my problem is this:
- right now I have a document with redlines (by "author") and blue-lines (by "Josh Kaptur").
- I want to save this document and send it to my boss.
- when I save it, all my blue-lines become redlines and are indestinguishable form the original redlines, which are extensive.
- How can I tell MS word not to merge all redlines?  I've never had this happen before.

a quick solution might be to print a color PDF copy and then send the pdf copy along with the merged document.

 

i hate track changes and pray for a horrible death for all that send me or otherwise instatiated track changes on my documents.

From your statement "Please help me turn this off!" I thought you were asking to turn off the Track Changes option altogether.  My bad.

"If you prefer that all of your edits be in one color, such as red, you can uncheck the Track moves checkbox in the Moves area so that the green formatting is turned off and all of your changes will be in red."

So, from that, is it possible that the "Track moves" option is unchecked?

Your Normal.dotm template and their Normal.dotm template could be set differently with that option which may cause this, too.

I'm not on my Windows right now, so I can't be as specific as I'd like, but I believe you can pull up the Track Changes toolbar and it will give you WAY more options than just the menu. In there somewhere should be where you can assign colors and do the merge/unmerge thing. Alas, I won't be able to be more specific until Sunday night, but I'll try to remember to look then.

I have found the only solution to Word's schizophrenia is pounding on the keyboard and shouting obscenities.  Short of that, good luck!

Track changes shows up however the user has his set up--so yours and his show up differently b/c your settings aren't the same. Change his preferences to match yours and you should see the same thing (or vice versa).

Thanks all for the attempted help.  I was unable to get it fixed and the boss approved my unsaved redlines (hence, still a different color than all the rest of them) over my shoulder.

I should note the problem appears to travel with the document.  If my boss makes changes to it on her computer, they appear a differnt color.  If she hovers over them, her initials show up.  But when she saves the document they all go to the same color as all the rest of the redlines and all all attributed to "author" if you hover over them.

FRUSTRATED!!!
