![]() | ![]() I'm currently thinking of getting Tattoo on my arm..and since it' pretty much permanent, I would like to get some ideas before deciding on a design. Doesn't have to be triathlon related. Post your TAT and give a newbie pros and cons of your decision. Thanx. Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This culled from a lot of reading and talking with people (I'm still working on my first): 1) Make it YOUR design, not something that you saw on a wall or on some one else and just thought it was cool. Helps if it MEANS something to you. 2) Draw it out full size, and put it up where you'll see it every day. Leave it up there for 6 months to a year. If you still like it, then go ahead with the tatt. 3) Have some one draw that design ON YOU in marks-a-lot or the like, full size, where you want it. Decide if the size and such is right. 4) Much like finding a bike shop you like, find the tattoo place that you're comfortable with. Don't cheap out. |

I always thought it would be cool to have something small yet meaningful written in Italian as a tattoo. But, too chicken. I hate needles, plus my 13 yr old daughter said...''when you're old and saggy mom, a tattoo will look really bad.'' You just need to plan ahead so it says something else after you've sagged ![]() |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've got both of my arms almost fully sleeved and various other pieces scattered over the rest of my body. I was the opposite of most people when it came to getting my first. I literally woke up one morning and decided I wanted to get a tattoo. Luckily I found an artist I loved on the first try and stuck with him for a lot of my work. Would I recommend doing what I did? Nope. Do I think you need to stare at the design for 6 months before you get it? Nope. I also don't believe that tattoos have to have meaning. A lot of mine are simply pretty. I would also avoid using other languages unless you speak it or hire a translator. Then you end up with "lummox" tattooed on you instead of "warrior". That in mind, I can't tell you what you should get. It should be something that you can live with. I'm covered in birds, flowers, and pin up girls. That may not be someone else's cup of tea, but it makes me happy. |

Maybe I should have her tattooed on my chest.....that way she can "sag" with me as I sag....lol. (referring to Sharyn's comment) Edited by KimaFit 2010-03-29 1:40 PM |

New user![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I got mine last year in north Jersey. I originally had the cross as a necklace for about two years and realized that I'd eventually want a new necklace but loved the cross so much. It's on my back near my right shoulder. I love it! (Not normal, I know... she was going to get one too, then bailed out after watching me get mine!) Although I didn't actually get the ink until I was almost 18. Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() These are a few of the 9 that I have. I fully agree with the design (or have part in the design if you aren't an artist) yourself. All but 2 of mine came from ideas I had and what I wanted. I will probably get more, maybe a pin-up some day, though most of my current tats follow a more Asian/Floral motif. We'll see. Oh, and don't EVER get someone's name...unless it's a dearly departed or one of your kids. I don't care if you've been married 50 years...don't do it. |

Elite![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() For my 1st one, I did pick a design "off the wall" and don't dislike it - but would like to add to it. For my 2nd & 3rd there are designs that mean something to me. This isn't very intricate, but it's meaningful. I got it on my lower left hip bone. I got it the day after I put my cat to sleep. He was an all black cat, who got really sick at less than 4 years old, because of some unknown problems. I do have a suggestion/rule: Don't get anyone's name or picture or something that represents them unless you have given birth to THEM or were given birth BY them! (Dad's count :-D) But be CAREFUL!! Tattoos are addicting!! (Hence my 2nd & 3rd and my desire to add to my 1st...) :-D Edited by lkc01234 2010-03-29 8:16 PM |
