Bluegrass 10000 - Run

Run
Comments: I ran the whole distance without walking and kept a fairly consistent pace. I ran a 9.5 min/mile pace for the first two miles. The road out of downtown is a slight upgrade which slowed me down slightly. I saw the race leaders around mile 2.5 - it was a close 3-man contest. After the turnaround I tried to pick up my pace coming back downgrade into town, but my legs were getting heavy. I still maintained a sub 11 min/mile pace and finished just a few minutes over my goal of sub 1 hour. What would you do differently?: Run Lots - Practice more at race distance. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, checked out the 4th of July activities. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think I need to re-establish my HR zones. I ran the whole race in a higher zone than I train in without suffering too much. Event comments: My only complaint was that walkers were mixed with runners in the 60+ minute wave, which made for a lot of zig-zagging in the first half mile. This race has been part of the city's 4th of July festivities for years. It is well organized, well attended, and the post race atmosphere is fun. I really enjoyed it and will definitely do it again next year. Last updated: 2005-06-23 12:00 AM

Woke up with an upset stomach so I skipped breakfast.
Stretched and walked around. The weather was clear and not too hot.
