Pre-race routine:

I showed up early. Went to the bathroom, set up my stuff and talked to friends. I had a ton of friends there. That was very cool.
Event warmup:

I think the sheer panic I was feeling counts as a warmup.
Swim
  • 15m 46s
  • 500 meters
  • 03m 09s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was happy with the swim. I had fun.
What would you do differently?:

Well more swim training would be good. I need to learn to put more effort into my swim. I have never tested how fast I can swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

This felt fine. I just took it easy and tried not to stress.
Bike
  • 47m
  • 20 kms
  • 25.53 km/hr
Comments:

Overall I did not at all enjoy the bike ride. It was wet and I have never cycled in the rain. I was really stressed and nervous the whole time. It sucked.
Transition 2
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

This seemed fine.
Run
  • 27m 50s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 34s  min/km
Comments:

This was a nice run. It felt short. I had a nice time.
What would you do differently?:

I probably could have pushed myself a bit harder.
Post race
Event comments:

Well I had a good time. I am happy that I can say I did a triathlon. I had fun on the swim and fun on the run and did not like cycling at all. Maybe it would just be a matter of cycling more to be more comfortable. I have always liked training more than racing. I am not sure I will ever want to do another.

Congrats on your first tri! Sooper, I want to tell you that I wasn't sure I'd want to do another tri after my first one either, and like you, it was because of the bike. But the good news is that it does get less intimidating and easier the more you do them.

Unlike you, I've never ridden in the rain so I know that was pretty scary. Chances are your next one won't be in the rain and you'll feel a lot more comfortable.

You posted some pretty great times for a first timer. Congrats!

Congrats on your first tri!!  I didn't realize that we were both doing our first on the same day!  Sorry about the rain.  You still did a great job!

Hey Sarah, nice tri!

Remember the mantra - Canadian girls kick a$$!

It looks like you paced yourself well on this tri as you had a great run, so you must have had something left in the tank at the end. Cycling in the rain is a bit more nerve racking for sure but it looks like you still did well even with your nerves.

I say that you had an extremely successful first tri and I hope that you give it another shot.
