Here is latest lowdown on the race in Cornwall this year. Numbers are up huge as word is spreading.
************
Welcome to the final pre-race update for the Cornwall Hospital Triathlon. We wish to thank everyone who has registered for this year and remind those who have yet to register that the last day for online registration is August 17th. Our registration numbers are up 50% over last year's phenomenal growth.
Please read this email carefully as it contains all of the information you require for race day. If, at any time, you have questions about the event please email [email protected]
Saturday August 21st - Kid's Day.
- The kids day takes place at the Cornwall Aquatic Centre which is part of the Cornwall Civic Complex. The first event starts at 8:00 am with the 12 & 13 year old age group hitting the water or starting their first Duathlon run. Registration is available on race day and is $30 for ages 7 to 13. Advance rates are available registering prior to August 17th.
- Bib Numbers and T-shirt pickup will be from 7:00am - 8:00am on the south side of the Cornwall Aquatic Centre
- Please check the website http://www.cornwalltriathlon.com/saturday.shtml for all the details about the start time, course and directions for your race. The bike and run courses have changed from last year so please preview the course maps before race day.
- If you will be registering on the day of the event, please fill out the forms on the website in advance to save time.
- The kid's event is a non-timed event.
Saturday Evening - NEW Pasta Dinner
- The Cornwall Hospital Triathlon has partnered with the Cornwall Sunrise Rotary club. The Rotary club will be hosting a pasta dinner the night before the adult event. There are several special surprises planned for the evening including early packet pick-up, photos from the 2009 event, transition basics, etc. Tickets are available at the door and are $10 pp. The pasta dinner will be held at the Canadian Legion Hall. Come out and talk shop the night before the big day.
Sunday August 22nd - Adult Day
- The adult races take place in the same location as 2009 at L'Heritage High School. Note that there is no parking on race day at the high school. The parking lot at the high school is the transition zone. All participants are asked to park at the St. Lawrence College east parking lot. From this lot you can cross the short cement bridge and continue to the back of the high school.
- Race Day registration is from 7:00am to 8:30am at the race site. Early bird registration closes on August 17th. If you are registering on race day, save some time and fill out the registration forms found on the website in advance.
- There will be two chances for early packet pick-up. Both on Saturday. Packet pick-up for the adult event will be available during the kid's day on the south side of the Cornwall Aquatic Centre. Packet Pick-up will also be available at the pasta dinner.
- The Cornwall Multisport Club has been swimming regularly along the swim course and it looks great this year. The water temperature is warmer than last year but still well within the limits for wetsuits being allowed on race day. This year's swim course will travel in opposite direction of last year with keeping all swim buoys on your right hand side for the duration of the swim. Want to try out the swim course before the Triathlon? See below for more information on the Cornwall Waterfront Open Water Swim on Friday August 13th using the same course as the Cornwall Hospital Triathlon.
- MP3/Ipod/Music Devices will NOT be allowed on any part of the course in any of the events. Use of such a device will result in an automatic disqualification.
- There are no aid stations on the bike course, please bring your own fuel for the event.
- The bike course is closed to vehicle traffic with the exception of a 500 meter zone 1.5 km east of the transition area at the Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge. Volunteers will be situated to control traffic to/from the Lodge with the least amount of disruption to the events. There is very little to no traffic expected on race morning.
- There are aid stations at the swim exit and 3 along the run course (approximately every km). Aid stations will feature water, Gu brew and either Gu gels or gummy bears.
- Onsite will be representatives from Total Cyclery and Sport who will be our onsite bike support for the event. Have a flat? need some air? See Total Cyclery. Also displaying their wares will be EuroTriShop.com and the Isogenix product line.
- There will be another draw for an Xterra Vortex 3 Sleeveless Wetsuit on August 18th. The draw will be taken from all entrants up to midnight on August 17th. Congratulations to Tina Runions, the winner of our first draw for an Xterra Wetsuit. See below for huge savings from Xterra wetsuits.
- PIZZA - if you stuck around last year for the awards you may have got you hands on one of the 30 large pizzas that were delivered from Pizza Hut. This year we have upped the ante and will have 50 large pizzas delivered around Noon. This is on top of the great food available on site after your event.
- Post race massage and A.R.T. There will be a physio therapist, massage therapists and chiropractor certified in Active Release Technique to cure all your race related injuries.
- Unless you are in the 5km run, please rack your bike before 8:30am. The transition racks are divided by race and the racks will be numbered so there is no reason to sleep overnight to get the best transition spot. The layout of transition ensures that all spots are fair for each participant.
- There will be an information board located at the registration tents and in transition providing course maps and any last minute announcements.
- In the event of thunderstorms, events may be delayed up to one hour before starting. If we cannot get the start in this timeframe, modifications to the race (ie. no swim) and distances may be required.
- There are two sets of washrooms in the school and porta-johns located in both the transition zone and at the 1km mark on the run. The school also offers showers for after the event.
