Howdy, howdy

I'm Yanti and (clearly) I talk too much here on BT. HOWEVER ... I used the BT Beginner 1/2 to race my first HIM and am using it now again (with modifications for my personal requirements) to train for Asia-Pacific Championship 70.3 in December.

I think it's a very solid plan (obviously, or I wouldn't be doing it again!) and also has definitely some wiggle room in regards to whatever it is you want or need.

I am.  Half way through.  September 25th.  I can change to the Oly at the last minute too if I don't feel ready enough.

Do we have to be doing that particular plan to be part of this group?
I am getting ready for my first HIM in November and don't feel quite ready for the Iron boards.  A group of first timers would be nice.

I am using the BT beginner HIM plan.  Along with two other first-time HIM tri friends.
Goal race is Iron Star in Conroe, TX on Nov 7th.  Eeek!
I've been good about it following it pretty closely up to about a week ago when I was sick.  Getting back to it.  From reading other boards, several people thought that it was a little short on the long rides and so I will be adding some additional/longer rides.  Longer rides are the easy part for me (anything but running).
Looking forward to hearing what others are experiencing.

You won't need to do that if you are already half way through the training plan! Awesome!

Hey girl! The purposes of this forum are to help beginners get to know others on BT and start using the training logs features as well as the other areas of BT. So, OF COURSE you are welcome to post here! I am very glad you feel comfortable posting here if you aren't ready for Iron Talk!

Count me in.

I'm currently using a mish-mash of several plans.  The Beginner 1/2 ironman plan looks good but the hours are about half what I'm training now.  I'll give it a go, but will add some other drills, I can't help myself.  I have a run plan that has worked well in the past and a swim plan thats keeps me coming back to the pool.
What I lack in experience I make up for in enthusiasm.  I'm racing an Oly event this weekend,  2weeks forward Ive entered a Half Mary.  Then another sprint tri.  Then no endurance events on the calendar until 2011 with a commitment to run Rock-n-Roll Arizona for fun in Jan.
If everything goes well I'll be racing HIM in the spring of 2011 but don't have a specific race picked.

I plan on doing a 1/2 next summer. Able to do the endurance part ok. Will be doing the BT training 2 times to take me to July. But do you have to be fast to do a 1/2 Ironman?? I'm looking at the times for the Musselman and they're so out of my league it's a bit depressing. I just learned how to swim in May, up to a mile, finally enjoying it, but not 1 woman in the 50-54 age group was in the 3min. pace time. To me they're all like Michael Phelps! Do you think by following the BT Plan that, in a year, the swim time will improve? How are people such fast swimmers?!

Thanks Jessica!
LOVE the logs here at BT, keeps me honest and it is so nice to see progress when it's hard to see it day to day.
My name is Keri, this is my second season of tri's.  I did sprints last year, my first Oly in April, a sprint a couple of weeks ago, another Oly in September and then the HIM November 7.  My #1 concern with the HIM is nutrition I am worried about finding the balance of hydration and calories in the right form that will keep the body moving and not heaving on the side of the road.  Looking forward to your expertise
Oh and I have 5 kids, I homeschool and have my own business (which I am in the process of selling).

I am a total beginner...in fact my first ever tri (a sprint) is tomorrow morning!  However, I have already signed up for Boise 70.3 in June 2011!!!  But, I was also the gal that ran a 5K and immediately signed up for a marathon.  It's just how I roll!  I'm doing a half mary on Sept 4th (defending my women's win!  It's a small race, but still!) and then I plan to take a bit of a breather.  After that, it's all systems go.  I hope to find some spring  2011 olys to do to help get ready.  I love the tri training and can't wait to bump it up a notch!  This thread will be so helpful!

Hello,
I'm going to start the program Monday and would like to add a long run (12mi) on Saturday.  What if any modifications can I make to the plan that will preserve the original continuity.

Regards,

So many great people here, and am especially excited to have newer BT members join the group--that's why these training-plan forums got started!!!

I'm on a pretty deserted island for the next few days on holiday--plenty of opportunity to OWS, run, and MTB, though, so particularly since I'm just coming off an illness that whomped out a week of training, I'm just having a blast doing all that stuff for fun and getting back into it.

Hi all. I've got my first HIM in November-the Shepparton Half Ironman in Victoria, Australia. I'm supposedly following the beginner 1/2 Ironman plan. Just coming into the swim focus week which I was going to greatly modify as I didn't want to do that much swimming. My legs are voicing their opinion, however, and swimming it will be.
I am just realizing the magnitude of this endeavor and am quietly shaking in my boots! It will be good to have some other beginners to chat with.

Glad to hear you will be doing the swim focus week. Giving one sport extra attention for a period of time is a great way to see a quick boost in fitness.

So I switched my training today. Was supposed to do a 2.5 hour bike and 20 minute run but the weather just sucked. Dont know if thats something I should have done. Went swimming instead.
