Looks like you could do Full IM this year. Your doing more volume than I am and I'm on the plan. |

Upgrading to Silver will give you a lot more plans to choose from, and there are different forums for support with those plans. How much experience do you have with triathlon? |

More than that and you REALLY run the risk of burnout and loss of motivation. I know it's scary to do your first IM, but I caution against using s dedicated training plan that is longer than 20 weeks. Just make sure you build your cycling and swimming base to a level that will help you transition into your trianing plan without too much adjustment. BTW, I have never done a marathon in a costume, but I have done a 5K in costume - as Daisy Duck. I love costumes! |

Expert 839 Portland, OR | Subject: RE: Beginner Full Ironman Plan Group I've used this plan for IMs in 2007 and 2008 and found it to be AWESOME! I will be using it again for IM CDA in 2011. I added some hours to the bike and dropped one of the weekly swims but I absolutely loved this plan. I had done 2 Half-IMs, many Olympics and Sprints but never run a marathon. For practice I did the first month of the plan in January as a prep before the real plan started and that helped me get in the groove of training. |

It will be my first and I think I'm going to follow this plan. Will it prepare me to finish stong? I'm nervous- I really don't have much experience in tris. I do have a very strong swim and run background though. DAVE- what race are you running on the 31st? Is it Marine Corps? Me too if that's a yes! |

Extreme Veteran 565 Silicon Valley | Subject: RE: Beginner Full Ironman Plan Group Good morning folks! @Bonnie - great idea on doing a practice-run month of training before the real deal starts. I'm sure that helps you find a schedule that works faster. @Jenny - sorry Charlie, we're doing different events. Mine is the Silicon Valley Marathon. Dean Karnazes "sponsors" this one so I'm hoping to get a picture with him or something. |

Assuming it hasn't changed, I used this plan last year the same way you are now. I did 70.3 Augusta then Ironman Florida (which was the same day as B2B). Went 11:08 for my first IM, goal was 12 hours. Really happy with the plan! |

Yep - I was a major BOP'er and was worried about the cut-offs but I finished with 40 minutes to spare the 1st year and almost 90 minutes to spare the 2nd one. If running and swimming are strong I would add time on the biking front and you will be a-ok |

Extreme Veteran 565 Silicon Valley | Subject: RE: Beginner Full Ironman Plan Group Sooo, I spent some time today giving the plan a closer look. Is anyone else planning on modifying it? I only want/need 2 swims per week, on Tuesday/Thursday (because of my pool's hours), maybe 3 per week during the heavy build phase. Further, the average swim is under 50 minutes which (to a swimmer) seems way too short to justify the trip to the pool. Also, Monday is typically my rest day. This plan has 10 rest days that fall on a Saturday which seems like a waste. This forces me to shuffle around pretty much everything on this plan. It's a good starting point in terms of overall volume, and the different phases or training blocks, but I wish it was customizable. =( I'm building the whole thing over again in excel...hopefully I'll be able to finish it in a week or so. |

I modified it a lot but I did it on a week by week basis. For me I took out 1 swim per week and I added time to the long bike rides. I also massaged the plan weekly depending on what my schedule would be. I never moved things out of a week though to keep workouts contained within the week the plan intended them to be in. Worked great for me that way |
