Swim
Comments: All things considered for my lack of pool time recently, this was a decent swim. Today was also the first time I was able to pee during a race :) What would you do differently?: I could have pushed harder. And if I actually swam during the week I could have easily been sub-30. Transition 1
Comments: Since it had been raining all night & all morning T1 was a giant puddle. This was quite possibly my slowest transition of all time. What would you do differently?: Get a move on. Bike
Comments: It poured the entire ride. The kind of driving rain that pelts you nonstop. There were also sections where visibility was no more than ~50 meters. I got more water up my nose during the bike than I did during the swim. Seriously. I was really nervous about the bike today, a little scared even. I've never ridden or raced in such heavy rain before, and had terrible visions of myself crashing. Once I got on the bike though my whole midset did a 180, and I felt comfortable and confident. I got into a good rhythm, went with it and pushed. I've been having some problems with the FD recently. For the most part I didn't have any issues today, but as the ride progressed dropping to the small ring getting a little funky. So, kept it in the big ring for the remainder of the ride, mashed it up the short steep hills and hoped for the best. It worked out for me. This is quite possibly the best ride I've ever had. Also, 35mph descending on a wet, slick road + rain pelting my face = scary What would you do differently?: Get a new FD. Transition 2
Comments: Tried to move as fast as I could, but changing shoes in a puddle really slows you down. Run
Comments: Legs were a little heavy at the start but not too bad. Right calf and achilles were tight and niggly & weird. Tried not to think about it. Luckliy I got distracted by wild blueberry bushes on the side of the course. Around mile 2 my legs finally felt pretty decent and started cathing up to everyone the had already passed me. I can't say for sure bc I don't have my splits but I feel like I picked up the pace with each mile. I felt really strong for the bulk of the run. What would you do differently?: I'm a little disappointed in the run. I think I could have push harder. I felt like I was running faster than I actually was, so that was disappointing. And I know I'm capable of more. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a couple waters and some fruit, picked up my gear and got in the car. Should have stretched but I was wet and freezing, and just wanted warm, dry clothes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of swimming and a noisy mind. Event comments: Despite the weather, I loved this race! This was probably the nicest race course I've ever done. It was beautiful. The volunteers were amazing!!! Standing out in the chilly, pouring rain for hours and still smiling and cheering...they were so great. For how awful the weather was, there were so many spectators and people standing outside their houses & on porches cheering for everyone. Like many races, the bike course was open to traffic. While I didn't see many cars out, the ones I did see were more conscious & courterious to cyclists than I've ever seen before. I did this race as a warm up for Syracuse. I wanted to give myself a little mental boost and also see what I need to work on in the coming weeks. I didn't really have a lot of goals for once. And once I saw the weather forecast all I wanted to do was to make it through the day without a crash. I accomplished all of that, I felt great during the whole race, I had so much fun and I actually enjoyed racing in cool rainy weather! Last updated: 2010-07-19 12:00 AM

Stayed with friends in PA. Up at 4:30. I had a hard time getting food down this morning. Ate maybe half a bagel, some red bull (no where to get coffee so early) and gatorade.
Easy 300M swim.
