I was in the last wave (all 45 and over) and realized there weren't many people in the older age groups. I ended up pulling away from the pack before the first buoy and stayed ahead the rest of the way.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.

I didn't work to go too fast in this transition. I sat down to take off my wetsuit.

I tried to not push too hard and keep my legs relatively fresh the first half of the ride. I picked it up at the turn around and got passed by 2 riders but I passed several more, all from a wave that started 5 minutes before me. On the way back it started raining pretty hard. There were annoying pavement gaps that bumped every 20 feet or so.
I nearly had a problem just before dismount as it was pouring rain and I was coming downhill and my brakes were barely enough to stop me before the dismount line.
What would you do differently?:

I need to lower my seat a hair and get more miles in. 2010 I'm way behind compared to 2009.

Comments:

I didn't push to go that fast in this transition. I took a little time getting my hat out of my pack that I wasn't planning on wearing until it started raining and I wanted to keep my glasses dry. My hamstrings were really tight and I wasn't moving very fast.

Coming out of transition my hamstrings were incredibly tight. I had trouble even walking to get started out of transition and could not run fast at all as I got out of transition. I've been frustrated with my running all year. I had plenty of wind, but my hamstrings stayed tight the entire run.

I didn't do much.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sore hamstrings. I need to regroup in the off season.

Event comments:

This was the first year of this race and it showed. I sent an emal with some suggestions for next year. I think they're committed to doing a better job next year.
