Subject: plumbing or roof water question
I have a four inch aluminum leader running down from my roof. I want to know if I can use 4 inch pvc pipe with a branch in the middle of the leader to catch some water running from a cement deck using a reducer.  What I'd like to do is cut the leader and put this pvc piece (below)  in the middle of the leader.  The branch on the side would be used to catch a relatively small amount of water from the cement deck. My main concern is that this type of pvc is strong enough to use with water running off the roof. I would think so, but figure I'd ask if anyone is experienced with this.

Thanks

My only concern would be connecting Aluminum to PVC directly. You should probably buy a section of 4" PVC pipe and couple that to the Aluminum piece with a Fernco adapter (rubber sleeve with 2 worm drive clamps to tighten down). Then you can glue weld the pipe to the Wye adapter and you're off and running. Flow rate shouldn't be an issue as I use 4" PVC to divert my rainwater to the driveway instead of the low spot in the back of the house.

Shouldn't be a problem. And yes, use a Fernco coupling to connect the two different materials (pvc/aluminum), Home Depot will have them.
FWIW, I'm a mech eng and have my master plumber license (you can trust my answer).
Good luck w/ the fix, should be easy.

Subject: Ferrico
thanks for the Ferrico advice- I would not have known to use that. That's why I posted, I figure you guys would set me in the right direction.

Thanks again. Should be a relatively simple solution.
