Subject: 1/2 Marathon at the end of March '11 or April '11
Does anyone know of a fun road 1/2 marathon in California around the end of March, beginning of April 2011. That's when my boyfriend and I would like to run a fast half. That gives us 4 months of training. I know there is the Oakland 1/2 and full marathon but I'm not sure it would be fun to run in Oakland, unless someone can convince me otherwise.

Are you in N. CA or S. CA?  There is a Half at the Wild Animal park in N. San Diego mid march.

Yeah, the inaugural Wild Animal Park (umm...Safarai Park now) Half Mary is in March.  And of course La Jolla is in April.  Both in San Diego.

The two HMs that are part of the Great Race of Agoura Hills (Chesebro Half [trail] and Pacific Half [road]) are at the end of March.  Pacific Half is a hilly, but very scenic, road course.

Sounds like the OP is looking for NorCal, though.

Shamrock'n Half is in Sacramento in mid March. Supposed to be a fun race with like 7 bands on course. I am thinking about it in the spring if I can ever get back to training again.

The Shamrockin is a very flat course with only a couple of small rises (not big enough to call hills)

If you're in Nor Cal, I'd vote for the Shamrock'n in Sacramento too. I've run that one twice before, plan to do it again in 2011. It's a lot of fun. I like that it's just a HM, no Marathon, so they make it a lot of fun for everyone. Flat course. Well organized. It's usually the weekend before St. Patrick's Day, so that may be too early for you.
