Getting back into triathlons after a long absence and was wondering when is the earliest one could do a swim, wetsuit of course. Not a polar bear but just wanted to get started on my open water swimming ASAP.

Looks like the it starting to really warm up in Oliver
Forcast calls for a high of 22 for next Friday. Hopefully the lake in Oliver is gonna warmer than the 9 °C sasamat is now.

Paul says the lake is down to 11C today but with temps in the 20's all week, that should help. it doesn't take long for it to warm up.

just curious,,,, is the lake temp posted/updated somewhere online, or are folks going out there to take its temp in person?

Also would like to know if anyone has temp. info on Whonnock Lake??? Someone (Steve??) mentioned it was local to him/her.....

I was lucky enough to stumble upon a fishing report, through searching google, (Sasamat Lake Fishing Report) that was posted on April 26, 2011.

I was thinking of trying Whonnock Lake over the upcoming weekend as I live 5 minutes away from it.

No idea on the temp in the lake at the moment, but I need to get a couple of open water swims in before Oliver HIM.

Hope the weather holds out and it warms the water!

Was thinking about Sasamat for this weekend..

My wetsuit was not impressed with being returned to "inside-out" status today.. after our swims in Oliver last weekend..

Went to Sasamat last Friday. It was a little cold on the head, hands and feet but it was bearable.

Ok, I hate to do this but right now I'm in Kona and have been doing my daily swims at the pier in preparation for my HIM next Saturday. The only downside is that there has been 2 shark attacks (surf boards chomped, no one eaten) in the past week at Lyman's Beach. So swim in cold water with tiny fish or warm tropical water with man eaters? It's a toss up.

Ok last night the North Shore Cable Men, Dan, Marek and myself swam our first open water swim at Sasamat Lake from the beach to the canoes and back.  Marek is racing in Idaho soon so we couldn't wait.   It was nice and warm.    Ok maybe not warm but definately nice.

Dan and Merick both wore a regular swim cap, goggles and wet suit.  I wore a neoprene cap, paddles and flippers because I'm smarter than they are:   Ha Ha!

You can warm up after the swim is done.

We are going again Monday after work.

I'll be swimming mostly at Batchelor Bay in West Vancouver this year with the tri-club and my own crew.

Here's a link I found:

http://meyrickjones.blogspot.com/2009/07/open-water-swimming-batchelor-bay.html

I'll check that out soon.

Anyone been out to Sasamat lately?  Is it warm enough to swim yet?  Rough idea of the temperature?  Leaving for IMCDA in a week and would like to get out for at least one lake swim before I leave.

Jump in Buntzen for a few mins so that you get used to the cold water. CDA is never warm.
