Subject: PSA - Don't ruin your race on the way to the race

At a lot of races where parking is away from transition, I always see people riding in their flip flops on speedplays, one strap bag flung over their shoulders, no helmet (which might get you DQ'd), in the dark with no lights, through crowds, etc etc.   I usually choose to walk.

At wildflower last weekend my coach saw a guy riding down the hill like this, one bag over his shoulder.  The bag swiveled right into his front tire, causing him to go down and break his freaking jaw (and he had a helmet on).

Damn, that would really suck. I know of people being DQ'ed or fined for not having a helmet on when they rode to the transition area, but broken bones would be much worse.

Yo, Dude-- I resemble that remark!!!!

I once face-planted a tree on a practice hot lap just prior to an MTB race Embarassed

Broken helm, glasses, & face= DNS.

I can attest to this!  This year at Oceanside 70.3, riding in to transition race morning I took a spill.  It's was dark, getting close to transition and it started getting congested.  I casually veer right to avoid congested rider and front wheel gets caught in a rut in the concrete.  Bam I go down on drive side of the bike.  I unclip, inspect the bike and it seems to be fine.  I walk it into transition.  Well, the fall jacked the rear derailer and it would ghost shift the entire race, wouldn't shift to the 2 inner most cogs.  Needless to say the hills ate me up and spit me out without those two gears.  I could bearly run afterwards.

I've decided if I do ever ride in again, my feet won't be in the shoes

BTW...What's up with Ironman California not allowing previous day bike check-in?
