Average of top 10% this year: 4:48:20

Average of top 10% last year: 4:39:34

Last year was actually hotter (30.1C max temperature according to TheWeatherNetwork compared to 28C today).  Any guesses about the reason for the drop-off in performance?

I was 5:17 for my first HIM after a truly miserable run.  I counted myself as being about 35th after the bike, but just fell apart on the run from the heat.  14th for swimming, 48th for cycling, 178th for running .  Anyone else have some good stories from the day?

I did peteborough back in 2007.  That run course is brutal.  Not much shade, always on a hot weekend, and then you haver to run by the finish 3 times before you actually get to finish.  I didn't race there yesterday.

My guess is the field just wasn't as competitive this year compared to last year (for example, the winner this year, was 14th overall last year, but to give him some credit it looks like he improved substantially. In addition, two fast pro's in the field last year - Bechtel and Guembel).

I was at the race last year, and I believe the humidex was "feels like" 38C. I had a really tough time on the run too (mostly walking). Made the decision after that race to never do Peterborough again, unless I have specifically trained for a 1/2 Ironman in such hot and humid conditions. I probably should have just DNFed once I started walking because it took me over 2 weeks to recover (feel 100% and ready to race again).
