Subject: Public transportation from LAX?
I am going to LA this weekend during the big shut down of their main highway. There is a shuttle to the hotel, but from what I hear it is going to be a nightmare. I'm going to the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza if you know where that is. I just looked it up and it is on the Avenue of the Stars. Is there any way for me to get there from the airport on the Metro?Thank you!

You wait 'til I'm GONE to visit LA? WAAAAH

Unfortunately, the light rail and underground system doesn't go to Century City. You're stuck on surface streets no matter what, so you may as well take the shuttle.

No.  Our city planners are idiots.  The light rail that "goes to" the airport actually stops a few miles away and you have to finish the trip on bus.

Take the shuttle.  Unfortunately, Century City/Westside is always crowded, and that's basically right at the Interstate 10 which is the southern end of the shutdown, so it might be ugly.  But at least you won't be the one driving

My office is on Avenue of the Stars also. Unfortunately, to get from LAX to Century City the direct route is the 405. Maybe the best approach would be to take a cab and tell the driver to take surface streets. Like Lincoln to Santa Monica and then San Vicente to the east, or maybe La Cienaga all the way to Beverly Hills and then west or some route like that. It would be more expensive but, in this occasion, well worth it. Or take the shuttle, I bet they will have alternate routes this weekend.

Check the map.

Thank you! I thought it would be easy, like just jump on a subway to go downtown. I just found put my brother and cousin fly in 1/2 hour later than I do so we'll probably just share a cab and try to find side roads. Yanti, I would have loved to meet you! It's not everyday I get to go to LA though, I think thr last time I was there was almost 30 years ago!
