I keep reading how awful the job market is. I have more IT job openings to fill than I can keep up with. Anything from an entry-level Help Desk Tech to Sharepoint Solutions Architect (6figures).

You probably shouldn't post your resume. Just kidding about that part. But if you're in the job market ...   PM me, bay-bee.

Do you have any need for non-IT people (engineers who want to change fields into something else)? I'm always keeping my ear to the ground too.

Do you hire non-Americans?

I know what you mean.  I own an IT company in Omaha and I can't find people to save my life.  I've had 3 sales openings for 6 months and other than the occasional "i just got out of highschool" apps I get nothing.

I know where I am we've been having a difficult time filling positions of various sorts (southeast PA).

I have noticed, however, that most of the positions I have seen online are contract jobs. No thanks.

It is amazing.

Since getting my current job, I have done 4-5 rounds of interviews to fill various positions.

The amount of paper-screening that I do is downright ridiculous.

However, the number of applicants worthy of an interview has not increased... with the exception of one position.

Some observations:

 - The number of people that do not proof-read is astounding.

 - The number of people that don't understand the fundamentals of a resume or interview. I am not talking the higher order stuff either.

It makes you wonder about what guidance and college career counselors are doing.

It is not like the Feds don't publish job outlook reports and the media doesn't publish the "best majors" articles as a result.

I see the same.  Plus people who apply for a job that meet NONE of the "requirements".  Why even bother to write the email?

I received an email with a resume attached recently.  This is what the email said:

"Attached my resume. U R looking for people?"

I also think some websites have an "Apply All" button.

Did they even know the position that they applied for?

I am currently in civil engineering, doing mostly design review. I would like to give more of a strict project management role a try, as I'd be willing to give engineering one more shot (done design, done design review, neither one is for me). Ideally, though not trained for it, I think I would love to get into an operations type job.

My ideal goal would be to work in some respect in the field of sports, and if I can use my engineering training, great, if not, I'm fine with that.

But companies don't always stick to there requirements.  Some companies will take job experience over degree.  It never hurts to apply for a job, the worst thing is you'll never hear anything back.

What about the people who meet all the crazy requirements and never hear anything back but still keep the job posted.  Why post the job if your never going to fill it?

My wife is looking for a corp HR job and is having no luck.  Most companies around here want 15+ years of experience, where are the entry level jobs?  She completed her degree 2 years ago and the best she can find is a Manager/HR at a big box retail, basically assistant store manager who handles HR issues.

I agree.  I'm talking about people who worked as say, a librarian or research assistant applying for a electrical engineering position.  Neither experience nor requirements are satisfied there.

Renee, I've got a Master's in IT Management.  Are you looking for technical or supervisory positions?

That is either lazy HR work or someone posting by law cause they are trying to give the job to a foreigner.  Or maybe something else, but I know to go from a H1B to a Visa so I could get my green card, or maybe it was when I had my H1B and was going for a green card, they had to post my job.  It's a scary time for someone going through that step casue if any American is qualified they have to interview them and give them the job if they are qualified.  Not necessarily a bad thing as you should look after your own first but in some cases you are talking about employees who have been there for years and have a well established life already.

The sad thing is that at the time, my wife worked for an agency that had gone years with vacancies for her particular license, and she still had to pay them to fly her position in the LA Times because supporting documentation of said vacancies would be too simple.

2) Do you hire non-Americans?

1) That's a challenge, though my employer/company has an engineering division and you never know what could happen.

2) What is a non-American? We hire and place permanent residents and US Citizens.
