Thinking about a triathlon this next spring--in my old age!! I've been fairly active my whole life, used to run a lot, now mostly biking, actually finished a century this past summer. I can swim--slowly, but can do 500 yards in 20 mins or so. Any ideas on how to train without exactly starting at ground zero? Or maybe I should start there.

Thanks a lot

Grab one of the training plans from the home page...find a plan and stick to it. I'm a soccer player and had almost no experience in being competetive in any of the three sports. I started running three times per week, swimming two times per week, and one long bike ride per week. I have my third sprint in two weeks...I love it. Be prepared to work hard, have fun, spend a bit of cash, and spend a ton of time here asking questions...new ones pop-up every day when you're starting out.

What he said. I'm in my 40's  and used one of those plans to go from the couch to the starting line. And even having that much swimming ability puts you way ahead of a lot of other folks starting out. Good luck!

Get one of the more conservative plans and find the week that has approximately the times your doing right now. Start there and work toward the end. Sounds like your biking is coming along well !! Find an experienced swimmer, coach, college swimmer, etc to give you some tips on technique. A coach at the local high school attends our church and is going to come to one of our group practices. I know it will help a lot. Also...read, read, read. I've learned a lot here and from some good tri books ("Swim, Bike, Run" by Hobson.)

Good luck and welcome to BT !
