Subject: Bike as transport
I know these are all tri-athletes that I am talking to, so exercise is high on the list. I was just wondering if I am the only one that cycle to work? I live in South Africa and the 6km to my work would take me 15min to drive. But on my bike I have made it in 13min. Is it just me or are there other crazy loonies that does the same? (Yea I know 6km in 13min is slow, but I am in the beginning!)

I know there are quite a few here that cycle to work. I am not one of them unless I happen to work an occasional day shift, and then I do...but my main reason for posting was to welcome you to the BT forum!

I commute most of the time too. It's only 5.5 miles, one way, and it's mostly on a bike trail so I'm really spoiled.  It takes me about the same amount of time to ride and drive, but biking along the river is a much better way to start the morning.

I am a beginner biker also.  I live 18 mi (29 km) from work.  Several times a week I would park at my bf's home, which is 7 mi from my work. It takes me a little less than 1/2 hour to ride.  After work, I'd try to take a longer route to go back.  I'm hoping to be able to ride all the way from my home some time next year.

Oh, and no, I'm not moving in with him.

I'm getting ready to cycle to school and work.  Work is close (2miles); but school is about a 12 mile round trip.  Makes sense to me!

My bike commute is about 50 miles round trip.
I'm seriously sick of getting flat tires! 3 this week. argh! even with good tires and liners.

I have been commuting to work for over 30 years.  I usually start in April/May and ride until it is too cold and wet or snowing, usually some time from mid-October to mid-November.  The direct route to work is only 10kms but I like to take a longer route on the way home especially in summertime.

I do, and my husband does too. We live only about 2 miles from work, and because of stupid bone-headed deranged (tell us how you REALLY feel) parking on campus, it makes no sense to drive. Dave will do it all winter; I give up when the weather gets truly foul. Although seriously... as far as I have to park from the front door of my office, I may be out in the cold the same amount of time whether I drive or ride.

I biked to work a lot during the summer (14 miles roundtrip).  I've had to quit because of 1) taking kids to school and 2) shorter days mean I would be riding in before sunrise. My brother and I are working out an alternate week carpool, so I should be able to ride home in the evenings every other week

I cycle to work, then again I only work ten days a month. But it is good for the soul. It's 32 miles round trip and it gives me time to get the day in order. Just take baby steps.

I'm planning on biking to work all this fall, and I'll start just as soon as I get my bike back from the LBS and find some of those damn pant clips. Anyone know where I can buy some online?
