I have been having some contract issues at work, nothing overly major, just drawn out, and the other half is freaking out. Due to a new arrival in March, and the other half leaving work, money issues are high on the agenda. I of course reasure her that it will be sorted out, but that's not good enough which just gets me off side with her.

So any pearls of wisdom out there, bring it on, for handling this situation.

HA! Usually the roles are reversed. The man usually freaks out about money when there is a new arrival. He considers taking on a second job - "how the hell are we going to pay for all this stuff?!" "And what IS a diaper genie?!"

Life has a funny way of working out. Obsessing doesn't help get things done - it only complicates matters. Unfortunately, I don't have any pearls of wisdom to offer. I'm not sure that there is anything you could say, aside from "honey, no more contract issues - I've been paid in full..." in this situation. Just take care of business, do what you need to do, and help old women across the street - good things happen to good people.

We are expecting our first in November. For the last two years the company I work for had lay-offs in the middle of October, which I've been lucky to escape so far. We actually haven't decided whether Mrs. Bonker will stay home or go back to work, but we have talked about what would happen if I were laid off. We decided that she'd go back to work while I get another job and I'd stay home with the baby. It won't be easy because she's a nurse and I am an engineer, so we'd lose a lot of income, but we will get by.

Just something to consider.

She's 3 mos pregnant? Reassure her, be understanding and calm. Project strength and concern for her and the baby. Hold tight. It'll pass.
