Overall Rank = 186/450

Age Group Rank = 1/3
Pre-race routine:

Get up, Grab the prepacked bags, eat, and GO!
Event warmup:

If you can count waiting in line to use the porter, (getting in there, being a pussy and not even use it), try to set up "shop" so to speak, trying not to get yelled at for not racking my bike correctly, find out where Mike is, and all the sort a warm up...I was DAMN warm. And nervous might I add...first TRI! Ahh! I was swimmer # 19 so as soon as the race started I was there. I did get a chance to do about 4 laps in the pool...no real warm up tho. :(
Swim
  • 04m 43s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

Okay...so I am a swimmer right...and consequently I was REALLY frustrated!

** also nervous that I was ranked # 19 on the swimming portion, I had a swimming HOSS right behind me! AHH! **

I hated the fact that it was damn near impossible to pass people, and I hated the lap swim then under the lane rope, then another lap and under the lane rope...etc., etc., etc. This made it so I could not perform "up to par". Oh well though, I guess everyone had the SAME struggle. It was still a success tho. I ranked 31/450 and I hadnt jumped in the pool to train one bit! BOO YA!
What would you do differently?:

Hmmm. Swam people over. haha. On a serious note, I would have been a little more aggressive abouut passing. It was nerve wrecking tho because there were at times 4 people to a lane in that two people were passing two people squeezed into these lanes. Not to mention all the people just standing on the wall. AHH FLIP TURNS...I would have done flip turns.
Transition 1
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Umm i did the whole tri in my swim suit! Tee Hee. Can we scream AMATEUR! Oh well.
What would you do differently?:

Have my shoes clipped in.
Bike
  • 49m 45s
  • 14 miles
  • 16.88 mile/hr
Comments:

Okay give me some credit here....before you look at my time and laugh! I had been "training" if you can call it that previously on a bike I like to call "Mary Poppins" for the reasoning that I sat completely straight up and rode around at leisurely paces. The bike was a hybrid and it totally sucked (but dont get me wrong it got me on the road and for that I am loyal to it, forever :) ). SO ANYWHO, the race was the FIRST TIME I had ridden my new bike, a road bike. I was really weary on how the gears worked and how to ride it efficiently. So, I think if I got on the course now I would rock it because I have been training for one and two I know how to ride my bike. Thats always a good thing...huh?
What would you do differently?:

Pushed myself harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

Get in, get out!
What would you do differently?:

Left shoes clipped in and got my feet the hell out of them @ the transition line.
Run
  • 26m 56s
  • 2.9 miles
  • 09m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Err....I felt like I couldnt walk! Much less run! I was like "Hollllly shit, I have to RUN now?"
What would you do differently?:

I just need to run and run alot. Period. It was the hardest by far of all events and I need to get out there, commit the time and DO IT!
Post race
Warm down:

Umm. none. oops.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

*Not aquainted with my bike
*Did not "train"
*Had shitty running shoes (past 500 mile limit)
*Did not have shoes pre clipped in
*Over crowded pool, different atmosphere.

Event comments:

Overall it was a blast. I felt good about it. And I am up for more!

Hey Bethany - you did great!  You got first in your age group the first time out.  That is so awesome.  Rockwall was my first tri as well, I thought it was really fun, and torturous at times. I actually met you there (Mike introduced us), I don't know if you remember.  So, are you up for tri's next season?  If so, I'll see ya around the Texas races.

Amanda, hey! I remember you Thanks on the compliment on the race...it was HELLA fun and I would do it again in a heartbeat! I was pumped about getting first but comparitively I still have A LOT of work to do! (Seeing as there were only three people in my age group). I should be at the RBM ride on Saturday. Pretty nervous about it actually. My season is not COMPLETELY over yet...I have a race in January for the triathalon club here at school. Life is good...hope it is good for you too!!
