Comments: It was very crowded until we left the Burke-Gilman, so the first mile was slow and hard to gauge. I had to surge to gain position, so I probably wasted energy. The loop in the middle was good. The return was all downhill, so it went fast but it was hard on my stomach. The first and only water stop was at the beginning of mile 3, which was stupid. So, I drank nothing on the course. My stomach probably couldn't handle it going down a hill anyway. What would you do differently?: I didn't stretch well enough because I kept running into people I knew. Luckily the slow first mile counted as a warmup. ![]() Post race
Warm down: 10 minutes of jogging, along the course to cheer on my friends. I neglected to stretch, however. What limited your ability to perform faster: It has been over a year since I ran a 5k, so I wasn't able to gauge my effort, especially knowing that the course was difficult. Physically, my stomach was my greatest limiter, but I kept it under control for the most part. Event comments: They should have a seeding system at the start, so people can get up to speed quickly. The post-race goodies were abundant, but the lines were crazy long. Most importantly (and this is why I ran), finishers under 20 minutes get a free technical tee shirt, so...sweet. I'll be back next year to see if I can get down around 18 minutes. Oh yeah, I got body fat testing done afterward. 7.5% according to the calipers. Last updated: 2005-10-30 12:00 AM

Warm up, pee, stretch, pee, pee, run the race. I'm very good at hydrating.
10 minutes of jogging, and some peeing.
