Subject: What type of job do you have?

The other evening my father and I were discussing exercising and how he didn’t exercise because he was/is a “blue collar” worker. He went on to explain when he was a young man that after he came home from a hard day at the plant and had to face 10-14 children (pending the year) He didn’t feel like strapping on running shoes, or jumping on a bike…. Which I totally understand beings that the man had to raise 14 children and work 2 jobs at times!!! He followed that up with this quote “most blue collar workers don’t exercise”

Not sure if he is right or wrong… So let me ask you this what kind of job do you have?

my hubby works in a shipyard, is a commercial diver and is in the water almost every day with a full face mask, radio, equipment, etc.  Before he got hurt, he'd come home from a hard day, and go off to Karate class for 2 hours.  He'd either teach or workout.  He'd go running with me.  HE'd ride with me.

So, yeah, that blue collar here works out but not as much anymore recently.  He's still on the mend.

The local paper did an article about him some time ago, his job.  I don't know if it's still available online.

Me- I work in a hospital.  Don't know what you'd classify that as.

How did he get hurt?QUOTE

He slipped and fell at work, completely tore his ACL and lateral mensicus, and is now probably going to get what's called an OATS or chrondal transplant procedure in March.

I'm a software developer. I have my 9-5 job and clients on the side. Clients on the side are never happy when a race draws near since I don't get anything done, and one could argue that my 9-5 gets the same type of neglect.

Stay-at-home mom for the time being, and started a non-profit for autistic children this year. Previously I did research at Oregon Health Sciences Univeristy doing research in a virology lab. Both jobs allow good training time but previously I was just a gym rat that ran the occassional mile until I met hubby 10 years ago at which time I started running while HE trained for triathlons. So I guess that classifies me as "white-collar."

Prior to becoming a cop I was a garbage man and after a 10-12 hour day I would either walk a few miles everyday or go running. I had to unwind after dealing with ignorant people who don't know how to put garbage in a can so it comes out easy.

I used to work at a biotech company...a start-up that no longer exists. What area are you in? I was in R&D mostly, but since it was a small company, I handled all the financial/administrative stuff as well. Way cool job...too bad it didn't survive!

I worked what I call a white collar-blue collar job before I started the road I am on. I was a certified athletic trainer/strength and conditioning coach on the college level for 6 years. I got tired of never having a life due to athletics. You seriously work 7 days a week at least 10 months out of the year and the other two months it's based upon the college's sport camp schedule. It was hard to find time for a normal life, i.e. dating, working out, eating. Now, I am working in education/research. I still am involved with athletics but it is on my terms not the athletic departments. Life is much easier now still busy as all get out.
