Subject: Training Plan help...
I just selected a training plan ( 20 week Olympic distance training, swim specific) in prepartion for the 06 Wildflower in May. What I don't understand is the actual training. Is there a training plan with specific workouts, or do I figure out a work out from somewhere else and use the time and volume the plan calls for? I need somewhat of a plan with specific drills and workouts, not just numbers. I really don't know what to do while in the pool to build my endurance, or for that matter to better myself in the run and bike. Am I missing something?

We do have training plans with specific workouts and drills. These are available with the Silver and Gold level performance memberships. Bronze level performance memberships include planned logging and importing of the 'minutes only' training plans.

For an idea of what some of the detailed Olympic plans look like you can go to the Training Plans page and view the First Two Week details for either the Beginner Olympic - 8 Week - HR Zone Based or the Intermediate Olympic - 21 Week, 1 Race.

I'm no expert but I did swim in HS (therefor I'm a rockstar ) To get back into try something like

warm up - 100 yards
8 - 50 yards - 45 seconds rest between each (cut rest to 30 seconds later)
4 - 100s - 1 min rest
2- 200s
1 - 500 etc

If you are in better shape switch the 200s for 500s and add in 1/2 mile sections with the goal of getting to (2) 1 mile sets.

It really depends on where you are starting.
