Today's
(scheduled
) workout:I picked up my Speedplays earlier today, but opted not to put them on before going out for today's ride
(which turned out to be a blessing in disguise
). 57 degrees warm... haven't seen that in awhile. Let's get the bike out on the road. So I'm moving along, 57 degrees is a lot colder when the wind is blowing 25mph in your face. I felt like I was caught up in some kind of meteorological nightmare, and no matter what direction I rode, then wind was right there, in my face. Coming up over a hill, about 6 miles in... POW! There goes the back tire. A near spill followed by a series of expletives. Nothing unusual, I'll just change it. Get the old one off, the new one ready, POP!, psssssssssssssssssst... there goes the spare. "Uh - oh." Start digging through my bag, time to call for backup. WTF? Where is my cell phone?
(on my coffee table, where else would it be
). Oh sh*t, I'm about 4 miles away from home. Start walking. This is wear not having put the new pedals on came in handy. I was still riding with the old mountain bike shoes
(recessed cleat
), not the new Louis Garneau's, so at least I could walk in my shoes. And off I go, bike on shoulder, blown out tube slung over my shoulder, dejected look on my face. Mind you, I am walking alongside a very busy road. Non-stop traffic. I walked about two miles before someone stopped to ask if I needed help. God Bless this guy. "Hey, you okay? I saw you riding your bike awhlie ago. I was coming back and I saw you carrying it." Sir, you saved the day. I memorized his license plate number, I'm gonna see if I can call in a favor from my friend with the local law enforcement. I'd at least like to send the guy a thank you card. Now I'm sitting at home, thinking about the new tubes and tire
(the sidewall is shredded, don't know how I didn't notice that before trying to change the tire
) that I now need to buy. DAMN I LOVE BEING A TRIATHLETE!
