Sagarin, to start with. And the BCS, as they utilize the rankings... besides that, I don't know. I know it has more validity than the AP poll.

You know this how?  Because Jeff Sagarin says so?  Because there are a bunch of formulas involved?

Because if you base the ability of a given team on it's performance and the performance against other teams and that teams strengths, you at least have some credence, though I agree not completly. If, however, you base your picks on what highlights you see on sportcenter and what specific games you see, discounting those you do not, I find that a little more suspect than a less-biased press poll. Further, the AP had USC as the best team in the country, computer rankings said Texas.

Having said that, I couldn't care less what either says, I am responding to statements made about the SEC being head and shoulders above all other conferences.

Do you have an opinion, or are you simply here to heckle my post?

Yes, I have an opinion, but for the most part I am just here to heckle your post.  My opinion is that rankings are all garbage because there is no ranking that determines anything better than head to head match up.  I will heckle no more.

Exactly. Without a playoff the best any team (even TX) can do is CLAIM to be national champion.

Here we go again with ther TCU bashing from all of BTs football experts... I won't go into it but I will point out that one of your teams (Oregon) who you say Sagarin should be embarassed to have in front of, lost to a team that TCU beat.   They may not be as good as I think, but they're probably a lot better than all the people who've probably hardly ever seen them play think they are too.

Playoffs would be nice... even a little 4 team one with the semi's in two of the BCS bowls and the finals in a third would be great, and only push 4 other teams (all 6-6 or 7-5) out of the botton of the Bowl picture.  But the college presidents would never allow it.

Yep, even if you are talking about Sagarin using multiple formula's and calculations, it is still boyles down to an opinion that those are the things that define what makes a team better than another.  However, just because one team beats another on a given day does not automatically mean that is the better team.  I don't think anyone would claim that SMU is a better team than TCU this year, but SMU claimed the victory on the field.  It's all so confusing.  I will not discuss it anymore.

Until September.<img align='middle' src='https://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/images/emoticons/smile.gif'>
