Pre-race routine:

Friday night my wife had a weird gut feeling about our room reservations so she called down and found out they didn't have us listed...and no more rooms were available. Stayed up until about 1130pm making calls. Finally found a room. Slept for a few hours. The inlaws picked us up at about 6am and we made the drive, went to the expo, ate lunch, etc.

Race day: Got dropped of at the race sight, ate some fruit, bagels. Stood in line for the porta potty. Got out. Had to go again...got back in line...went again. Went to my starting corral. Saw some guy without number or timing chip in running attire stretching out. Tried finding someone "official" but the bandit disappeared. Downed a gel prior to race start.
Event warmup:

Did some stretching.

Comments:

At the race start I was needing to pee again and was starting to think I drank too many fluids.

Was planning on running on following the same strategy of my previous half marathon and alternate running and walking. Estimated finish time was 2:30...goal time 2:20.

The faster than planned 10ish minute miles felt comfortable so I went with it.

At about the 5k mark...porta potties...lost about two minutes at the johnny, but felt sooooo much better.Picked up the pace.

Between mile 6 and 7, downed my other gel. Pace still feels comfortable.

Mile 10 and still feeling strong and pick up the pace some more.

Mile 13 feeling good and start to kick it in...feel oxygen debt setting in and ease up slightly.

Finished the race with a new PR and without walking any segments. Beat my brother-inlaw, who usually beats me on all the runs.
What would you do differently?:

Besides better conditioning, and maybe a few less fluids...nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Did some stretching. Found my family. Went out and ate even more.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Definately my level of training. My training slacked off in November and December, mostly due to work.

The altitude drop (I live at 6500 feet) probably saved me.

Event comments:

A great race, one I would recommend for a first half marathon.
