Subject: Big Friday Dilema

I have been planning on going to Gasparilla and running it for months.  Well a few weeks ago I was diagnosed witha strained hip flexor, which caused me to have to switch from running the full marathon to the half.  A little disappointing not being able to run the full as originally planned, but I also want my injury to heal bfore tri season begins.  But I still I had plans to head down to Tampa early, stay a few days with my sister, and then meet up with the BT'ers on Friday.  I have my flights booked and accomadations arranged.  And not to mention how much I've been looking forward to meeting all the BT'ers going.

Well, I sold me house and should be closing the day AFTER I get back from Gasparilla- Feb. 28th.  Now I know it'll be stressful trying to move the day after I get back into town, but I am looking into getting the keys and moving into my new home before I leave for Gasparilla since the house I bought is vacant.  No big deal if it works out accoridngly.

Well today I find out at work that we are going to undergo an FDA inspection from Feb. 21-24th.  This is something as a company we have been working towards for years to get approval.  It's a HUGE deal.  So now my Gasparilla plans are screwed up.  I obviously won't be able to go down to Tampa on Wednesday- I can change my flight to leave Friday after the inspection is over adn be present the entire time.  However, I'll have to change pay extra to change it.  Not to mention that I'll have to drive to the Atlanta airport which is about 3 hours.  That means I wouldn't get to Tampa until later Friday evening.  I'd be getting home on Monday and have to close on my house the next day- no biggie if I can move early.

I'm not sure if I should stress myself out by cutting my trip short and having to rearrange flight departure plans.  I'm trying to find out if my company will reimburse my flight changes.  If so, I might be able to fly out of Augusta Friday evening which would help since I won't have to drive to Atlanta and would make things easier.  But...in a way it seems like all the odds are against me for Gasparilla- got the hip injury and won't really be able to "race" the 1/2, closing on the house the next day and having to move, and now this thing with work.

But...I REALLY want to go- what a fun time it'll be!  I think I know what I'm going to do- see if the company can pay for me to switch flights.  It just stinks!  I hate trying to make these types of decisions.

But...if I don't go, then I can move that weekend instead of running, let my injury fully heal, and won't have to deal with all the stress.  Hmmm...decisions.

Guess I need to decide soon.

The reduced drag coefficient of your hairless head, combined with the reduced weight due to lack of hair should create less pressure on your hip. I hope you factored that into your decision.

But I would still have my hair for Gasparilla, so that's not really a deciding factor.  most likely my massive sweating would weigh it down, causing more weightbearing on my hip.  So...it's a good thing I decided to scrape my vacation.  I want to avoid an increase in injury- or at least that's what I'm telling myself.

Actually it's getting shaved before St. Anthony's in April, IF I raise the money.

It just sucks becuase I planned back in August to do this race, have all my plans finalized, have been training for months and mostly really looking forward to this fun-filled weekend.   But it would really look bad if I missed work on those important days and as much as I depsise my job sometimes I don't want to jeopardize.  So I guess I have to weight the consequences.  I have officially decided I'm not doing the race.  I just have too many odds against me at this moment   But... at least my injury will fully heal- that's looking on the bright side, and I'll be good to go come tri season!

Smart decision, Janelle.  It stinks to have to miss it, but the other things on your plate are more important and there's no point in running yourself crazy trying to get it all in.  This will give you time to heal, get the move accomplished, etc.  There will be many other races!

The one good thing I have realized about tris is there are alot of them and many people will be at several races this year so there will be opportunities one to race and two to congregate. FYI I had to cancel my trip to the carribean because the people I bought my house had to close on a certain date so while my first spring break being single was suppose to be fun in the sun I actually had a better time with my family as they helped me move into my house which by the way will be on MTV cribs next..... yeah right. Well you have alot of exciting and important things going on in your life and I wish you the best with every step. Also good luck on the fundraising.

I agree- good choice.  All sights are set on your IM this year right? No point in pushing something that seems to be against you anyway. I'm always the person asking others who are totally stressed out "look at your list, find what you can say no to."

That said- good luck on your house sale and move, and have a healthy training season!

Well you have some tough choices. If your truely think you can enjoy yourself and not be stressed out then go. I hate being under time contraints myself and probally would not enjoy running around like a madman. Yes there will be more races, but most importantly don't aggrivate your current injury. Tough choices, flip a coin.
