Subject: New 'Strength Matrix' is Online

We have transferred over to the new strength logging system.  We have preserved all prior data (for display and/or graphing purposes) except for non-numeric rep and weight data.  We had to expand everyones data sets into the new matrix, so please check your recent data!

There are a few new icons for editing the matrix per exercise:

The trashcan.  When the box is checked, all data for that exercise is deleted upon updating your log.
Insert a new 'set' row after.  This will contain new set, rep and weight feilds for that inserted set.
  Delete current row.

Supported Data
Everyone now must enter only numeric data in the new system as all data will soon be able to be graphed. (sets/reps/weight data)  If you go back into a day to edit where you previously had non-numeric data, you will be forced to use numeric data.  For all old non-numeric 'set' data which we retained, that data will be ignored for graphing purposes.

NOTE, you only have to enter the data you want...if you only want to keep track of 'sets', just leave the reps and weight fields empty.  If you only want to track sets and reps per set, only leave the weight field empty.  Yes, we have increased the complexity to this, but only if you want all the cool graphs coming up!  You can keep the strength logging as simple as you want-you can still just add in your total strength time/comments and leave it at that.

Bulk modification (copy/move/delete) and creating your own training plans
Like the current logs, these above features will support the new strength matrix.  But please verify initially that any moving or copying or deleting of strength data works as it should.  If not, please report it to this thread.

NEW 'Strength Blog and Calendar'
The blog view will still show the 'min/max' values of reps and weight as we now actively find those values from the new feilds and inputs BUT you can now view the details with the new 'strength blog and calendar' located in the hovers at the top.

Questions or Problems?
Please post here.  I'm sure we will be tweaking, finding bugs, evolving and enhancing this feature for a few weeks.

What next?
We still have yet to add in custom weight templates and the graphing.

I like it. I was going to write program to do exactly this.

Could you add abilty to mark drop sets, forced negatives, super sets, trisets, etc?

Sounds like this could be of use, would these workouts just be 'tagged'?  Or would they be used as filtered data for reports/graphs, etc?  Give me a more complete picture of the use and expand on the list and will see how it evolves...

Maybe this new fancy toy will motivate me to lift...or maybe not! But either way, it's great!  Thanks for all the continued improvement.

Great stuff Ron.  I just created a template and used it this morning.  Everything appeared to work as it should.

 Thanks again!

Some type of drop down menu to mark th excerise as a drop set. for superset and triset you'll need to mark which excerises were done together.

It would be nice to be able to see this data in a graph, compared maybe with regular workouts.

Ron,

The addition of the template is fantastic!!!!!!  I love the site but I did think it took a little too long to add my strength training.  Problem solved without asking.  Another reason I should become a paying customer which I will soon.

One question, when I saved my template it also saved my reps and weights for that day.  I assume that is because I had that checked when I saved the template.  So I went back and saved the template to the same name without those boxes checked.  I hoped that would allow me to pull up the name of that template without my reps and weights filled in.  However, it still had my previous rep and weight data.  Should I just create a new template without those boxes checked?  Seems like it might make more sense and save you some space if I could do what I tried, save the data to a template with the same name without the boxes checked, perhaps then a box might appear asking if I want to over-write the template of the same name then I click yes and my template is saved without the rep and weight data.

Just a thought, but overall this is a great addition.

Go back into the day you made or want the template from.  Delete the old template having the weight data.  Once that is gone, create a new with the day you want to get the template from and deselect the 'weight' box.

Yes, going back after all was saved and unchecking the box and saving won't eliminate the weight.  You have to just delete the template and redo it.  Should take 30 seconds.

Let me know if any problems.

Great addition! I used the new strength system and it worked beautifully. Much easier to log and review the workout later on. Thanks, Ron.

Thanks Ron.  I tried it and now it comes up with no reps or weight filled in the boxes which is what I wanted.  I will really enjoy this feature.

Good stuff Ron.  Still, the most useful addition for me would be to allow custom exercises so I'm not limited by the options in the drop-down.  I realize that there is a "general" choice but then I have to document what that general exercise was in the blog portion.  Seems it would be simple to allow us to enter text for the exercise type.
