Subject: Britney driving w/ baby on lap...

Did anyone see the story about Britney Spears driving with her baby on her lap?  They even had a picture of her.  What kind of frickin' idiot is she?  It's bad enough to see people driving with kids in the car that aren't buckled up but to have a little baby on your lap!  Someone has to file some kind of charges or something for that, right?  Child endangerment or driving without a brain or something...

Here's the pic and commentary from one of my favorite sites, thesuperficial.com.

"I'm not sure what Britney Spears is doing with her baby in her lap while she's driving. I assume she's planning to eat him. Or maybe she's letting him drive. Which is cute and all, at least until the accident where Britney and the steering wheel combine to turn him into a pancake. If brains were french fries, Britney couldn't fill a Happy Meal."

I could only hope that she was just sitting in the car, not actually driving it. Ugh - what an idiot.

Ok, straight from a conversation with my 6 year-old:

Me:      "What is wrong with this picture?"
Emma: "There's a baby driving in the front of the car!"
Me:      "Do you think that is good or bad?"
Emma: "That's very very bad!  The airbag could hurt the baby!"
Me:      "Hmmmm...I wonder why the baby is in the front?"
Emma: "The mommy must not be very smart!  Why isn't the baby in her seat?"
Me:      "I have no idea."

I rest my case - a six year-old knows about airbags but Britney does not?!

And my question still is...does anyone know if charges could be filed against her?

I'm going to assume that the comments about "where she's from" and "the bayou" are meant in complete jest.

Here's thesuperficial.com's most recent take on it:

"Britney Spears has come out to defend the photos of her driving with her baby in her lap, saying in a statement:

"I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger. I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm's way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us. I love my child and would do anything to protect him."

I'm sure there's some sort of logic in this statement, I just can't figure it out. Only Britney Spears could think that her rolls of thigh fat would be safer than the protective seat especially designed to keep babies alive. I guess that's what goes through your mind when you have the mental capacity of a cucumber."

Straight news article take on in here.

Personally, her explanation, like much of what she says, is babbling incoherence.

If she was trying to escape paparazzi as she claims, why did she not get into the backseat with the baby, and let the ( presumed ) bodyguard drive?

Someone has to file some kind of charges or something for that, right?

They opened an investigation on her, to see if she is a fit mother. Department of Child protective services (or whatever they are called).

she don't even look skeered in the pic as she claims, looks just like she's driving along and it's perfectly normal to have a baby on your lap.

I see that quite often here in FL.  but it's usually on the passenger's lap, though.

Ok, my question is why do we have pictures of her with a baby on her lap. I'm not say that it is a good idea to drive with a baby in the front, but we were not there. We don't know what the photographers were doing, we don't know how far she was going. Have any of you done anything stupid before. I know that I have. Let her live her life in some amount of quite.

Why not strap the baby to the hood then?  The roof?  The trunk?  Hell, let the kid drive.  We weren't there to say that he couldn't.

Sometimes you just have to call stupid things stupid.  The kid can't protect himself.

Does it matter? I wouldn't let my husbnand hold my kids on his lap if he was driving to the end of the street.

I had a friend who did this.  She was arrested for leaving her baby, then about 5 months, in a car while she went into a building "real quick".   It's Florida in the summertime, stupid.  She'd let her daughter (the other one, about six now) get away with not wearing a seatbelt just cause it was too much trouble to lift the seat up and pull out the middle seatbelt (she wasn't in her "usual" seat because my son was in the back also).    She was married to a .....  pediatrician, and of course when the baby in the car thing happened, it was verrry embarassing for him.

I haven't spoken to her since October.   I have known her for almost 10 years.  Some friends you just have to let go.

but, hey, this thread is about Britney!

sigh..  i wish there was a parenting test they could give before you're allowed to reproduce..

I couldn't agree more!!  Unfortunately that wouldn't help the declining birth rate here in Japan...as almost none of them would pass!!
